I love how music can brighten up a bad day. -
i found this post by h9 and was wondering if i should use the outlaw receiver or not. if i started with that and then got a separate amp would it make a good pre/tuner? i have seen some posts that a tube pre will sound better than a ss in the 200-400 price range. im just lost and have no clue what to do can someone tell me what to do i don't know if i want separates or not and then if i do i have to figure out ss or tube for the pre and im guessing i would have to go ss on the amp in my price range. well here is h9's post from a thred about the outlaw receiver.Well I can agree to disagree ..........I'm not so much of an analytical listener as I am very tuned into what I like. I've never heard the ultimate listening characteristics I like in a reciever. Detail, soundstage, open and effortless and a completely natural vocals. Proper decay on instruments, with proper attack, tone, scale and dynamics.
Of course I also realize I'm at the mercy of the source. I can enjoy many things audio, but when I sit down to lose myself in a listening session I have certain criteria, and recievers have never provided me with those characteristics in spades like seperates can.
Of course the whole discussion is a matter of ones opinion/preferences.

well, new will probably run you $100 give or take. But, I think you could get a nice used Sony SCD ES for that much or a little more. Same product, more or less, but with better build quality and internal components.
My current 2000ES is nice, but the 222ES, 333ES, are better.Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand

The thing is I have been in this hobby for over 25 years and I have the experience to make such statements (as the one you quoted above in post #33). I know they can be confusing for someone who is just getting into this hobby, but the only way to know is to experiment and get some experience under your belt. Any of the suggestiona you have gotten so far are very good. If this is your first system I'd stay away from tubes because those, IMO, are a whole other issue. The Outlaw will be a very good starting point. The only draw back I can see is they don't come up used too often so you are going to pay the going price. You will be able to get as nice a set-up, used, for less than a new Outlaw receiver...........just something to think about.
H9"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul! -

All the equipment you listed will do very well. You will need something to play music with so I would get a CDP. Then you can check out cables.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2
