I'm bummed. I called this morning to purchase the sub, but the guy said he sold it already! God, what a crap shoot. Oh well . . . guess I'll continue to wait for another good deal.

Don't worry about it. There's always another deal on the horizon.
Chalk it up to lesson learned -- sometimes you gotta jump on a good deal when it presents itself and not talk yourself out of it. If you didn't like it, you probably could have sold the sub for more than what you paid.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

That sucks Solid. EB's right -- there's always a better deal lurking around the corner.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I have only heard the Totem Thunder in a dealers showroom, but I was impressed, especially for music. I can't imagine that Totem wouldn't have a decent musical sub. For that price, I think you should highly consider it, as you can always move it with little lost if you don't like it.
I have the SVS SB12+, and it keeps up with my Magnepan 1.6's just fine. It has a sound unlike the ported HT SVS subs (I also have dual 20-39 PC+ and the PB10). It's a very well built, small, musical sub. I had a chance to compare it directly in my room with the ML Grotto and the REL Storm (I believe it was the Storm, it was around $1500 new). The SVS killed the ML Grotto. The Grotto tends to get pretty sloppy on the bass compared to the SVS and the REL. The REL was a better sub for music and speed, but it wasn't the close to $700 better that it would of cost. The SVS was surprisingly close!
Be different .... try the Totem!DKG999
