Try the Analog Output stage..

I like it...

Lil brighter than the tube - otherwise sounds the same. I like it...

Did I say I like it? Because I do.

I think I need some silver cables in my system too -- maybe between the source and the preamp, just to add even more brightness/detail. Because I like forwardness.

You mean the solid state output stage? The tube stage is analog also.

Doesn't this player offer a choice of Digital, tube, and solid state output?

The CDT100A was a nice upgrade to my Onix XCD 88 ---

I think I kind of like the Solid State output better than the tube though... Just a FWIW

That particular unit has parts upgrades in the digital signal path. I always thought all the outputs were quite good.

Does the Solid State output stage have the variable output gain that can be controlled via the remote as well? I'm running sans preamp at the moment.

What tubes have you been using in the tube output stage?

Also, FWIW, its my understanding that the headphone output is supposed to be excellent.

    Yeah... I don't think I am...

I changed the output on the CDP, repositioned the speakers and slid the TV back about a foot or so and am digging the results...

Has a much more forward, dynamic presentation and the soundstage is huge. :D

Well - your CDP looks really nice already, even when it's off!

Glad to hear that the room re-arrangements helped the sound.

That's a nice piece of gear.

Wonder what's next after the Stratos Extreme monoblocks, the 2nd VMPS sub, and additional Crown XTi1000 amp? You need a front projector.

Im not going to get another Crown amp...

I'm thinking of getting a HT processor instead of a second VMPS... just for crossover and LFE features and such.

It sounds like you've reached the "tube" saturation point of your system......too much of a good thing causes a loss in detail.

Yeah... the Candela has a heavy based tube sound. Very smooth sounding preamp.

The Shanling's Solid State output is crystal though.

I'd recommend something from Outlaw or Emotiva. There are some good offerings from Rotel, Parasound, Krell, McIntosh, too.

Probally will go with Emotiva LMC 1 just because it is 13" deep and I can put it in my side cabinet and it gives me all of the processing power I will need.

Good choice. I think you're headed in the right direction. I like the components you choose, too.

However, I've stopped upgrading a while ago. I'm like 100% content with my system right now.

Heck, I'm 100% satisfied with my system... a month ago.

Before it is over, I will get that other VMPS... the processor... add two more panels... and cables..

I dont really know what to do - don't really need to do anything.

But I did make room for my Mono blocks by putting the CDP up on top of the TV stand. Thats good news.

And I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Okay, I tried it, and Sid is right, the SS output stage is pretty impressive. I certainly like it better than the tube stage, and its probably not going to be going back to tubed for a while.

Not sure if its the synergy, or that I just like the first SS only setup I've ever had, but whatever the rig has right now is working.

Good rec' Sid. Glad I switched over and gave it a try.
