This Week's Yard Sale Finds

I have been away the last 4-5 weekends so yard sales have taken a back seat. Memorial day weekend is one of the busiest and there were tons around the local area and about 12 within a 3-10 minute drive from me. First one I went to (Masonic Hall annual group yard sale, got there as they were setting up):

NAD 3150 Integrated Amp- Exc Cond
NAD 4150 Tuner- Exc Cond
NAD 6125 Cassette Deck- Exc Cond
Linn Kan small bookshelf speakers- Re-painted cabinets (not horrible but not great look)

All above for $30. Haven't tried electronics yet but speakers sound fine (original list price around $6-700 from late '80's). I don't understand, but I have never even seen/heard a pair of Linn speakers and in 4 months I am now the proud owner of TWO pair of Kans courtesy of local yard sales! Guy at yard sale said his buddy dropped off the equipment. Apparently has a "top-of-line" turntable that he didn't bring because the "needle thingy" was broken. I left him my phone number....

Second stop, about 100+ albums, most if superb shape. Very good selection of true classics. Lots of Dylan, Beatles, Joni Mitchell with great splattering of other early/mid 70's stuff (just listened to the pristine condition Surrealistc Pillow from Jefferson Airplane last night, drove the wife screaming out of the house during LOUD play of White Rabbit). No Hendrix though damn-it. Spent alot for these, $50 but couldn't resist.

Other stops were more typical crap but I did grab one thing early on that caught my eye. Original old oil landscape scene painting, no frame and in reasonably rough shape, but was VERY well done. Canvass and painting needs some professional restoration but it had the right look. Asked what they wanted, and women shrugged and said how about $1.00. Buddy next to me said, "Hell I'll give you $2.00", so I also acquiesed and gave her $2.00.

Brought it home and googled the artist, Margaret Patterson. She is a well regarded American artist from the turn of the century that was well known for landscape scenes and use of light in her work. Spent a lot of time on Cape Cod. Well, I have no real idea of value yet but I will be dissappointed if it is less than $1,000 and could be much more  .

Not a bad Saturday morning ;).

Oh, cry me a river, 50 cents per album? That's dirt cheap by anyone's standard, especially for good classic rock in playable condition. Hell, I've paid that much for crap that I hadn't even heard of. Great score, great deal. You sure do have the corner on the yard sale market up there.

Congrats Ted! The audio equipment and music are great, but the oil painting might be a bonanza!:D

I hope that the weather on the Cape is great, I enjoy the May/June days as the tourists don't arrive in masses until after school is out. I'm looking forward to a short stay in late July or early August.

Nice score, the only thing I found was a hundred magic a cards for a buck(yeah, I play that dorky card game) and some 45s for a quarter each. I picked up three, one had light scratches, but all of them have a lot of static.

Trust me, no river crying here. They were asking a buck each and I had 25 in my arms in no time so I just said how about 50 for the lot.

schwarcw: Weather for Cape this weekend was superb! Can be a real hit and miss out here this time of year. Real hit this year.
