Wire management?

I just spent the last 2.5 hours putting zip ties on all of my cables. It was insanely tedious but everything looks leaps and bounds better.

I was just wondering how many of you have done it yourself. (I assume there are a fair amount since we all love our gear.) It is really pretty amazing how much better it makes everything look.

Also, does anyone know of a good place to order some of those plastic tubes to consolidate wires?

I like the techflex wrap sold by partsexpress.com. And pleased to meet you I am just down the road from you in Brunswick. They likely have the plastic tubing as well.

I've been putting off wire management. In an attempt to lower the noise floor, I want to make sure all my IC, speaker and power cable runs are correctly placed before tying them down. I have a load of velcrow (sp) type wraps that will neither pinch or cause any stray capacitance. I'm not quite done with equipment placement and new cable insertions so I have them running as best I can to keep the ICs at 90 degree angle to the power cords and the speaker wires in S formations. I also want to get the speaker wire elevated by at least eight inches.

Every time I do it, I end up buying a new piece of gear or evaluating something for somebody, and it gets all torn up. I've kind of given up on it, although I had good luck with the Vantage point velcro'ed scuba suit stuff. Ran one for power and one for signal down different sides of the rack. Otherwise, go to a garden center and get the velcro stuff on a roll for staking plants. I've got a roll someplace, just need to find it again.

I did it when I wired in some new ICs, then went through and done it all over to make it look even better back there. Sometimes you get ideas on routing your cables to make it look like a proinstall. Just remember not to tie power cables with speaker cables and the like.

    Velcro + many hours.

This keeps me from changing things physically on a daily basis unless it's something I really, really, really want to do. I just don't want to go back and re-velcro everything all over again.

It does make it easier to swap components, though.
