Well POTC were released yesterday on, (Beta-Max) i mean Blu-Ray, and the reviews are awesome. I just ordered mine at Amazon for $23.99. Direct uncompressed from the source. I would love to see these on a 1080p display but i'll manage to get by.:D Stated to have the best picture quality of "anything" on the consumer market. I had a friend pick them up and tell me about it. Just a heads up for fans of the series.

The Image:Curse of the Black Pearl (Blu-ray)
Hold onto your hats, because this 2.35:1 AVC transfer is going to knock your socks on your ****. When Pirates was released on DVD, many people complained about prevalent edge enhancement (which, I have been informed by a reliable source, is not actually edge enhancement at all) that lowered the quality of a lot of the image. There are no such problems to be found here, as this newly minted transfer, taken from the original digital intermediaries and color corrected for home video (as it's a different color space than film), is as flawless as its successor, Dead Man's Chest. The depth, clarity, and detail of this transfer is simply mind-boggling. The Pirates movies on Blu-ray represent a new standard for all high definition content on any format. If it sounds like I'm gushing, I apologize. But spectacular image quality is why I got into HD disc formats in the first place, so to see not one but two discs set a new benchmark for visual quality is an exciting thing for me. If Disney can get transfers to look this good this early on in a format's lifespan, imagine how incredible transfers will look once the format has matured. Take a bow, Disney, you deserve it.

The Image: Dead Man's Chest (Blu-ray) I've been reviewing these high definition formats for a while now, and have been watching HD programs even longer. And it isn't a lie, nor hyperbole, when I say that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest's 2.35:1 AVC transfer has the best image quality of any HD content I have seen to date. The transfer was taken from the original digital sources, and color corrected for home video color space without any adjustments to the image. The opening scenes alone are so rich with vivid detail and bold colors that it looks as if you're simply watching the scene unfold outside your window. I know that such a description has been used for HD before, but this one really gets everything right. You can see stubble on Will's face, engravings on straps, the fine gold filigree in the sword commissioned for Commodore Norrington. Even better, the transfer lets you soak in all the hard work that went into the creature effects. Normally CGI effects look glaringly out of place in HD, but Davy Jones and his crew at times actually look like they were really there on the set looking exactly as they do in the shot. And the Kraken has to be seen to be believed. I could detect no forms of edge enhancement, polarization, or other artifacts. This is, simply put, a perfect transfer. It's the best of the best, and the disc is worth a purchase for the image alone.

And also an interesting read about the Sony BetaMax. They even compare to the modern day HD/Blu-Ray war. I stand by my orignal format war statements and they have been dead on.

HT mag also had an interesting issue today. Casino Royal (Blu-Ray) is the highest selling HD title so far with over 100,000 copys sold. And broke several other HD records.

Good stuff, i might have to consider that 1080p Epson projector in the near future. SWEET!

AndPixar's Cars is on the way. How cool will that be. My jaw already drops on my 32" LCD.

That guy's reviews are spot on. Even with the excellent portraiture of the image quality even that doesn't do them justice. They truly must be seen to believe. I have a lowly 720p display and even at that resolution I was completely blown away. Bar none best looking HD content my display has ever... displayed... :p

I'll be picking up the BR of CotBP, it's a great, fun film. DMC pretty much sucked and I already have the SD so no upgrade for that one. The reviews on this 3rd one are not kind so most likely just a rental.
    If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.
