I just purchased a pair Lsi15 & pws1000 to go with my 5 Lc265i (1 front and 4 surround). I am looking for help on how & what to power these with.
I have been using rt2000i with 245i and a pair of rt600i in rear in my basement using a yamaha 6.1 reciever 105w.
Now I have constucted the basement room 12 x 21 for 7.1 with lc265is with enclousures, horizontally for the front vertical for the rest. I am in the final stages of constructing my dream theater room. My speakers should arrive tuesday and I have a long weekend to try and complete this cycle.
I am using a samsung projector and have been looking hard at Yamaha rx v2700 140w I can get it for around $1000 brand new delivered.
I welcome any thoughts.
I have become a polk a holic I even have momo's in my truck and am thinking of using a surroundbar in my bedroom to go with PWS10 using my old reciever.
Thanks in advance,
Keith

I would look at something used and buy ext amps to power your speakers to get the full potential.
-
I am not an expert on audio equipment. What brand and model would you reccomend? Also where to find them?I do want full potential of these speakers.

I believe lsi15's & psw1000 have powered amps with them. Do I need more than a reciever?Ht:

I know the sub does so no worries about that now regarding the 15's.... I was reading the info and did not notice anything about them being powered.
As far as receiver and amps it would depend on your budget -
+1 to Willow's advice...
The LSi25s are powered. The 15s are not. Go with Willows advice on getting an amp. With your proposed setup, you are trying to push 7 4ohm speakers with a receiver. I have no experience with the in-walls yet (have some on the way), but I do with the LSi 15s. I have an amp and just for kicks, I compared 15s with and without an amp and there is a difference at lower and especially at higher volumes. My Denon 4306 is no slouch in power but it is not enough, in my opinion, for the 15s. Im not saying you cant drive all your speakers with the receiver you are looking at, I just dont think youll reach the speakers potential.
First, figure what your budget is. Then determine all of the sources you have now, and what you intend to buy in the next year or so and make sure you shop for an AV receiver or pre-amp with all of the connections you will need. For example, if you have 2 sources with HDMI and intend on purchasing a third in the future, you would need 3 HDMI inputs if that is your connection preference. Once you have your requirements, you can start shopping here in the classifieds and other sites like AudiogoN.
As far as what amp to buy, amps are expensive, but the willingness to go used will get you a great amp at much lower price. You could look at Outlaw, Adcom, Earthquake, Sunfire, Rotel or B&K just to name a few. All of these mentioned come in a wide range of prices so its up to you to figure how much you want to spend.
I personally have owned an Outlaw 7700 and like it very much. Upgradeitis made me sell it and buy an Earthquake and I could not be happier. I bought the Outlaw new because I didn't know about sites like AudiogoN. The Earthquake was used and I saved a ton.
Good luck! -
Thanks you guys!
I was looking at amps there are amps & pre-amps. One review lsi15s was using a parasound preamp & amp. Is that what you use to bi-amp or bi-wire? Do you use a av receiver with the amp or preamp?
I was using av receiver for my rt200i so I guess I missing out on the full potential of those babys. I never bi-wired because I did understand what I needed to do that.
Will the lsi15 out preform thr rt2000i?
thanks,

Keith,
The AVR can act as your pre-amp assuming you have the required Pre-outs to connect to the amp. Make sure it does if you ever intend to add an amp later. You would either have the AVR or the Pre-amp but not both Its just not legal to have two wives unless youre in Utah. No disrespect to the Polk Utah chapter.
As for the Bi-amp, Bi-wire, Bi-polar talk, save all that for later experimentation. Dont try to dive in too deep at first. Get yourself an AVR or a pre-amp and connect that to the amp and then the amp to your speakers. I have no experience with the rt2000i but most speakers will benefit from an amp. -
Gotcha mOOnpie! Thanks for clearing the bi-polar thing LOL. I will take your advice and play with the bi-stuff later. S&V mag really raved about yamaha rx v2700 what are your thoughts on that AVR it has video upconvert. for my projector & 140w per channel?
As far as amps are concerned the lc265i reccomend 10-200w amp and the lsi15 20-250w Do I need 7.1 amp with at least 200w?

this amp.. would be a good match for your system.. as long as your Yamaha has pre outs now.. you can just add this or any 7 channel amp.. and you're set for life.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Alot of people do not like Yammi. Denon, Rotel, Outlaw, and HK are a few of the favorite names.engtaz

Really whats the beef on yamaha? I have a 6.1 105w that ran my old system and never had a problem. I'm no Audiophile expert thats for sure.
Sound & Vision says great things about the rxv2700 I am going to check and see if it has pre outs.
I will compare some of the other avr with the yammi.
thanks dander boy.

HK or Denon with pre outs. There are tons of threads here with the same question asked. Just do a search, and you will have more than enough info for you question about receivers. As for Yammi I had one. Too Bright. Not natural at all. Look at Ebay for HK direct. Take your time, and wait for a good deal.
Here is a link for specs. Don't let the low wattage scare you. 50 watts of HK was almost as powerful as 105 Yammi.

As for an amp you can get an Adcom GFA-555 all day long for $300.
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Ok too bright.
So If you were me and money was not a problem what pre, or, avr ,amp or whatever would use for 5 Lc265is , pair of lsi15 & psw1000 in a 12x21 room.
Please give makes and models,

Keith, hopefully you'll learn to disregard the old audiophiles' tales which get endlessly recirculated on some audio boards despite the lack of a factual basis. Competently designed receivers don't come in various sound flavors("warm", "bright", etc.); they're engineered to amplify transparently without adding an audible coloration of their own. Lab tests, such as those on the 2700, show that they indeed have a flat frequency response, not the major irregularities which would have to be easily measurable for there to be a "warm" or "bright" characteristic added.
If you like the features and price of the 2700, don't allow yourself to be discouraged. It should serve you very well with those speakers in that size room. -
Keith, DO NOT believe ANYTHING that johnny boy k. says about audio, period. He wouldn't know good sound or different sound if it bite him in the ears.Political Correctness'.........defined

is this only for home theater or music too? What other needs to you have? DO you need HDMI?
I'd say... B&K Ref 50 pre amp.. and their 200.7 power amp.. a good combo.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Thanks for your responses,
It is mainly for home theater but not only HT. Next to my theater room I have a rec room with pooltable, darts and Bar
with 2 polk rc85 for music. I wanted to use the same receiver for both rooms and I wanted to give my new speakers proper power.
I do sit & listen to music and I am hooked on polk.
Has anyone actually used the Yammi rx v2700 with the lsi series.
Where do you get B&K for wholesale?

It should serve you very well with those speakers in that size room.
Sure, they'll do the trick, but if you spend good money on good speakers why cheap out on the power.
Once you amp you never go back!
FWIW, I bought monos for all my main 3chs 200wpc. What a difference in sound. There is no way an AVR can do what an amp can do. -
If you find Denon, Rotel, Outlaw, or HK model with pre amp outs and 90 to 100 watts a ch. and with the audio and video inputs you need you will be fine.
There are alot of fans of these manufacturers. I have Denon and pre amp out to my speakers with 200watts a channel. You can add amps to a pre amp out AVR. LSI's require ample power. Go to your nearest Circuit City, Tweeters or your favorite local or online store to see what meets your needs. To suggest a certain model to you would be bad because only you know you budget and AV needs are.
Good Luck

The only receiver only choice I can think of would be an Adcom to push 4 ohms all around, but you are also looking at a 1800-2000 dollar receiver.
-
The Onkyo states it can handle 4 Ohms, I'd rather trust the Adcom though.

Hello everyone,
I think I understand that these speakers need POWER so I am looking for an amp the B&k 200.7, Adcom GFA7707,Outlaw770 and sunfireTGA-7200.
Does anyone know where to get a great deal?
All my speakers are 4ohms 200-250w so I will get an amp.
The main reason I was looking at yamaha rx v2700 was the 3/1 HDMI and the video upconversion for my projector(Samsung 710ae) and 140watts 7.1 but I didn't understand 8ohm to 4ohm thing.
Looking at the preamps the video was all component not HDMI .
So should I go with Yammi and an amp instead of preamp?Ht:

Welcome Doc.
You should check regularly on Audiogon for a good deal on a used amp. there are quite a few Sunfires for sale right now.
As for the Yammie, I know that it is not a good match with the RTI series tweeter. But it might be just fine with the LSI's. Only way to know is to try it.
If you are near a Tweeter try listening to the LSI/Yammie combo with music you know very well.
Make sure you report back here if you make the comparison so we can get an idea of how you liked it.Hello everyone,

I second the used amp suggestion...You can get much more for your money picking up quality used gear, and if you don't like it, you can always sell it for a minimal loss, maybe a little profit if you get a great deal... -
Good morning everyone,
Still waitng for K to respond. F1 nut hope I didn't offend you not my intention I do appreciate your input.
I didn't see any 7ch sunfire on audiogon only B&k 200.7
shouldn't used amps go for half retail price?
When I get everything finished I will report back and find my camera and post some pics
