That seems like a nice amp. Might be good for modding as well. You'll need an efficient pair of speakers to get the best out of it.

I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I'd install a tube socket in my own foot before I would buy one of those.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

This incredible unit will shock you when listening to your favorite music for the first time!
Hmm... maybe an IEC three-wire power cord is in order...

    Here you go...

I bought this from Gator3000. He seems like a nice enough guy. I paid $350 shipped. I was curious after acquiring my first tube (Jolida 202) from Dorokusai. Here's my thoughts...

    1) I like the Jolida better.
    2) Took me about 3 days to fry it. There is no overload protection and you have to be VERY careful about your connections. I had a short at the speaker terminals from frayed monster cable and cooked a tranisistor. Gator was helpful. I was able to find the part and solder in a new one. The two
    3) Stand alone it does pretty good, but I found that I like using it as a preamp to my NAD2200. (See pics)
    4) I did a biamp with my 2.3TL using the onboard 25watt amp for the top and my NAD for the bottom. This unit as two sets of preouts in addition to the speaker connections, which makes it quite fun and flexible to play with. I have my Jolida on my SDA now. My listening room is crap, so I have a hard time being too critical. The picture is of my basement rig.
    5) I plan on taking it to work and driving some M7 with it, or giving it to my 14 year old.
    6) It looks good. I think the binding posts on top are cool (and convenient if you like swapping stuff around a lot).

In general, if you are wondering what "tube" sound is like, this isn't a great choice. My Jolida and vintage Fisher 500c give me much warmer tube sound. You will notice an improvement over your standard Sony/Yammie receiver, though. I'm satisfied with the purchase, but I wasn't expecting a miracle at $350 either. I got what I paid for.

Riglehart - I'm sorry that you had a less than stellar experience but at least you can still find a use for it. The unit is marketed under a couple, if not a few names and that always makes me wary in regards to Chinese gear.

What are your listening thoughts on the Jolida? It's a fun piece of gear.

You can always use an office rig for when you want to play Zamphir, Master of the Pan Flute.

I'd definately say the Jolida is a better value, even at the $520 I paid for it used. It sounds better than any SS I've ever owned (Yammie, NAD, JVC). Honestly, the Jolida 202 and the Fisher 500 (1970's) are the only tube gear I've ever even heard. None of my friends are audiophile and there isn't a store within a 200 miles that sells tube gear (that I know of) to go listen.
