Seems like lately hardly any studios are taking the time to dub their movies in DTS. DTS is far superior to DD. So much smoother and seamless with bass and total sound stage really seems to open up. Any thoughts??

Yes It would cost movie houses and studios much more to switch to DTS. Its all about the money.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

They come out in DD at first so they can release the super duper great edition in 6 months in DTS so you have to purchase the movie again if you want it..... All in all, highly annoying.

The one bright spot for DTS is Fox. They are releasing pretty much every blu-ray title in DTS-MA which includes a standard DTS "core".

Not everyone shares this opinion. To me, DTS is usually too bright and overcooked.

Just spot checked some SD DVDs at Amazon and it seems that Fox releases like Planet of the Apes, Flyboys, and Night at the Museum also have a DTS track. Looks like Fox is the DTS shop if you want it on new releases.

Overcooked is a good description since the levels are higher on DTS as compared to DD. Less dynamic headroom. But alas, it all comes down to the engineer who masters all of the tracks for the film. If you have some idiot doing it, it doesn't matter if its DD or DTS, it'll sound bad.

OK. I suppose it's the same for music mastering as well. I noticed the DTS movies produced overseas, particularly in Asia, are pretty well done. Video production is superior, as well.

I've been wondering the same thing, but its been a long time since I bought a DVD. I can't seem to ever get a dts DVD from Netflix.

Exactly! Although with music, it seems like the powers from above (above on the organization chart) force the music to be engineered with high levels and absolutely no dynamics.
