Hello everyone, I have a pair of Monitor 30. I want to use it as my computer speaker, can anyone suggest a good 2 ch amp for the job? I just need something small and not to expensive.
Thanks in advance, Ulpian

Sonic Impact T-amp or Super-T (a better version for a few more $$) are very small and not too expensive. Several Polkies tried and liked them, too.
I am running my Monitor 30s off of an ONKYO R-805X, and very happy with it. -
Andy has one in the classifieds2 CHANNEL

Look into a Trends Tripath amp... The Trends uses the same chipset as the Sonic Impacts, but with more power and less distortion. Trends makes a USB s/pdif adapter too that is quite the value... add a DAC and you have a budget PC audiophile system.
With the monitor 30s, I would not get the Sonic Impact, at least the regular T-amp... The super-T is better, but then you are paying more than you would for the Trends, which is more powerful than the super-T. That tweeter is kindof bright, that is why I am saying all of this, and the way the Tripath amps work involve complicated filtering of ultrasonic freq. When driven too hard, they distort and distort badly, and you are going to hear it on that silk dome, so it is better to get as much power as you can afford.
An alternitive to the tripaths is a nifty and CHEAP radioshack item that is very easy to mod into a true 50w integrated amp. No soldering involved. Instructions are on this forum. -
thanks, the Trends Audio amp seems like a really good unit, and it have some excellent review.
BTW, how good is the Radioshack mod amp? -

Lots of people seem to really like it. I think it would make a great integrated amp for PC audio. The mod is plug-and-play, and it has a built in volume control. I think the Trends is going to sound better as long as you don't need more than 10-15 watts, but the radio shack thing is like 15 bucks or something really insane like that... might be worth a try.
What kind of stuff are you going to listen to... the trends is going to be very revealing, so if it's for mp3s and games, you might want to try the RS one, but if you are setting yourself up a nice little uncompressed digital music system, the trends is going to sound good. -
The trends is a great little amp, I highly recommend it. The basic T-amp is also a steal at its price, I tried it with a pair of X-ls and a portable cd player and was very impressed. Then I tried it one night (we lost power and I needed some music) with a pair of Gallo 3.1s and was extremely impressed.
That being said, I don't know how well either would do for a PC system, it all depends on listening levels. I tried a Super-T for my Lsi7 pc system and loved the sound...but it gave out at around the max I would listen. Since then I got a 68wpc gainclone for $170 and love it, same sound as the t-amps but much more power.

Did you realy hook a stock t-amp to Gallo reference 3.1s?
How did that go? What kind of volume could you get and when did it begin to distort?
