Yep. Xbox 360 croaked. I'd been out on business for a week. Got home and powered it on (specifically the Media Center connection). Hung. Powered off. Counted to 10. Powered on. Red ring of death.

This is a box that does 90% music/movie streaming and 10% games and sits in a very well ventilated area.

That makes 100% death rate for my friends and family members.

Damn, These Xboxes are dropping like flies. Do they just suck? I have never had a Playstation croak in 12 years of use. Some quirks, but no flatline.

I'm in. Talk with MS service and its going to be at least 140 bucks to fix. Why are all the 360's crashing all at once?

Naw, should be free. I call. They verify purchase made Nov 2006. They send box. I ship in said box. I sit and pray for a 3 week turn around. At least that's the story with my friends and family.

    I'll call tomorrow.

As for why they're crashing, I recall reading something about bad manufacturing with the board leading to overheating. Really cheesy considering I don't use mine that much.

My original Xbox is still blowing and going after 7 years.

that's THE million dollar question! it's either systemic failure that M$ should be aware of, or an unexplained bizarre coincident that affecting 360 owners worldwide, sort of instantenous combustible of an epic proportion.

either way, do your a buck forty business so that we can all play again! :)

I got mine in Nov 2005 the night that they where released, so mine is out of warrenty, thats what is so strange to me, never had a problem with it getting hot or anything else, and after nearly 2 years with almost no problems it just dies like all the rest.

Thats what I keep thinking, I'm not claiming to know whats going on, but I can't get it out of my head that MS has released some sort of update or something that is making all the systems crash what else could it be besides coincident which seems highly unlikely , but what do I know.

That sux. Reliability is the reason why I've been hesitating over purchasing the HD player. I usually never buy a MS product this early in the game. Should have waited for the Black X360. That would have been more like me. Jumped the gun this time and got burned.

You do have me thinking.... I just might start refusing the updates from this point on. I shut the auto updates off on my computer about 3 months ago since each update was causing some stability issues. Damn helicopters!

If your box is out of warranty, check out www.llama.com they should be able to repair the box also maybe even cheaper. While youre at it, add a case mod to the cart and enjoy it when it comes back. Im not messing with sending **** to M$ again. Here are the codes for the rings of death as well, it maybe something simple to fix.

yeah it is really pathetic you'd think within the first couple of months they'd have fixed the problems.. nope.. whats VERY sad is i made a post on here saying "i hope my 360 holds out until the 65nm chips are out then ill exchange it" .. IT DIED THE NEXT F&****!#% DAY! anyway its back now.. it was rattling when i turned it on.. i dunno what it was probably where i had it sitting but i about crapped myself -.- it took just under 3 weeks i didn't think i'd get it back this week at all but i was wrong least the turn around time was quick .. but thats only cuz they send a refurbished console :( and i suggest you all keep it in the horizontal position if any solder joints are loose at all standing vertical will just make them worse..

is it me, or are the 360's that are being called upon to do multimedia stuff (HD, link with computer, music, etc) the ones that are dying, but not so much the one's just being used for gaming only (?!?!?!)

cant figure out why that would be if it is the case.

Oddly enough, I bought mine Xmas 06 figuring most of the bugs were worked out from the first gen (freezing and stuff) instead of getting the brand new PS3.

it's a known fact that the hd dvd drive pushes the processor harder than any game does. i know i have the hd dvd. i wonder how many broken 360's are paired up with the hd dvd drive.

She gave me my "red wings", so I countered with a "dirty Sanchez". The ways of the ninja are both mysterious and disgusting.

those that have killed their 360s - did any of you get random 'disc cannot be read' errors before it died for good? mine is doing this (mostly on rainbow 6, but every once in a while on other games).

I think this is a separate problem. Even the original xboxes did this. Could be a poor choice in cheap dvd players. Could be a problem with their copy protection system. But I have this exact same problem and it doesn't matter if the play session is long or short, it just randomly drops out. One poster said that he replaced the dvd drive in his original xbox and it solved the problem. But it's much harder to replace the drive in the 360 as it requires modding the drive's firmware. MS's customer service seems to be a crapshoot. So I'm just nursing mine along even with the problem. If you decide to send it in, please report back. But it sounds like all you'd get is a someone else's refurb.

i asked for them to return my very same console to me by placing a note in the box when i sent mine in. well, like i'm some sort of fool. the only thing they sent back that was mine, was the top half case. you know, the only part with the serial number on it. sure as ****, the bottom half of the case and internals are just a refurb. and you guessed it, the bottom had scuff marks and some scratches. not like anyone will ever see them but me, but that still sucks ****. and it wasn't too ugly, but i'm ocd, so to me, it is.

Mine was stuttered, locked up during boot up, and after several reboot, it flashes red rings. The first time I called, support suggested to remove the HD-DVD drive. It worked for a couple sessions, and then it crashed again for good. The replacement looks very clean to me. So, we'll see how long it will last.
