Polk sellers

I am worried that people like us are giving sellers reason to believe they should jack up prices on the old Monitor line. There was a high bid of $260 for these 10Bs and that did not make the seller's reserve. This guys puts up a lot of audio gear. There is another set of 10s on ebay store that the seller has wanted $279 for. Even if the price isn't totally out of line, after shipping, the price seems steep to me. I just bought another set of 5s for $120 on BIN (this is after the $115 BIN that had whizzer mids). Shipping is gonna be $42. The guy that had the 5s with whizzer mids has now found another pair of 5s that he intends to offer. He wanted me to take them but I already found some different ones. Anyway, it seems like we need to figure out how to lower the price on these things! good as they are.... Ebay is nice for guys like me who seem to have a very limited local market, but with a national buyer base, sellers seem able to sell almost anything.

It's the used resale market folks, that's the way it goes.
The impact of this forum on resale value is debateable. I'd say "Show Completed Listings" has more to do with pricing on eBay than this forum.
All audio gear will ebb and flow in regards to retail history due to many factors.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Just how the market works; the 10's for $279 have been there for ever and will probably be there for some more time. If there's no buyer willing to pay the price, they just won't sell.
If someone really wants something, they will pay what others might think is high dollars for an old speaker, but as I see it, for the way the Polk Monitors sound, even if you paid $500 for them you would be getting a great deal._________________________________________________

SOPAThank God for different opinions. Imagine the world if we all wanted the same woman -

Ever hear of www.fmtunerinfo.com and their "Tuner Shoot-outs"? :-) -
Why would owners of vintage Polks want the value to go down?
Maybe we should see if we can get the re-sale value of our houses to drop as well... -

Cause I don't want to sell, I want to buy. My wife told me how much this big a** family heirloom credenza was worth after I broke my back getting it into the house. Great, but we will never sell it (like for more audio gear). I wasn't seriously suggesting that this forum was the cause for high prices. And I agree that high priced Monitors have come and gone on ebay without bids. I am just feeling whiney about having to pair fair value for speakers and then having to pay half that much for shipping on top. But, I do understand market forces. At least there's no sales tax. -
hi... that guy lives close to me, and i have asked his reserve on several items over time (local pickup, etc)...
this reserve on those now relisted monitor 10's was:
$400 before shipping costs...
say huh?gear list:
1 down, 4 up.... -
I've been watching a couple of auctions lately where it looks like the seller has a buddy run up the bidding. That's about the only thing I can come up with when someone throws up multiple bids in 30 sec incraments. My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

A bit of a digression, but I started the thread...so there...how come all these ebay decriptions talk about how long "I" owned this or that and how "I" thought it worked. Aren't most of the bigger ebay sellers just resellers? Are these descriptions written by the person they bought it from...or sell on consignment for...or do some people just really sell that much on the bay?

This guy (below) treated me great when I bought a pair of monitors that didn't have original parts (whizzer mids). He now has some 10s for sale that seem to be at a good price. I bought 7s from him a couple years ago that were near mint. He is also going to list some more 5s...not sure where he gets them all. No affiliation...no relation.

I have seen huge flucations in prices in certain items on ebay over the years, seller 1 sells something for x amount of dollars than seller 2 looks at what seller 1 sold his for and prices it accordingly and can actually cause a large upswing in a few months in prices.
But at some point the bottom falls out of these inflated prices and the market returns to somewhat normal pricing.
plus buyers are finding out to purchase a speaker that sounds as good as an older model he has to spend lots of money so it increases the prices up accordingly for the older gear.
As far as shipping goes try living up here in alaska and getting stuff sent its actually incredibile the price difference. Try entering in area code 99701 sometime to see what it will cost to ship whatever it is your looking at buying and you will say WOW im getting off cheap.:D
REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all -
I understand the desire to buy cheap and sell high of course.:D But I beleive that there probally isnt 2% of the sellers on ebay that are selling a polk item that are members here. So I think we have very little to do with market prices. Its all about supply and demand.
