What does 6 channel input do?

I searched it and came up with having something to do with a dvd player hook up I think. (The abreviations used on this forum for features has me lost). I have this feature on my new Amp and don't know if I need to use it
Harmon/Kardon AVR245. Fronts- Monitor 60'2. Centre- CS2. Rears- R15's, Sub- PSW202

    I believe it's for sources that have SACD or DVD-A capability. They will have identical outputs on the back. It's so the multi-channel signals are sent to the correct amp channel.

    Or if you want to use the d/a converter in your dvd player instead of the one in your avr,when watching movies.

    Welcome to the Club Polk Forums gool!

    The 6 inputs are analog imputs. The hi rez multi channel units for SACD and DVD-A require analog inuts as they only ouput in analog. If you don't plan to use these formats, you can use the optical or coax digital inputs.

    Thanks guys. I'm using optical for my dvd, so I guess I'll just forget I have that feature.
