If you had $3000.00 to spend on a turntable which table/stylus combo would you get?

I'm currently looking at a VPI scoutmaster signature and a Rega p5 with mods.
I'm partial to linear tracking turntables but have not found any new tables in this price range. Any recommendations on table/stylus combos will be appreciated.

Different company philosophies there, but each make excellent tables, you are looking at new at that price??

I use ClearAudio Aurum Beta S on my Rega P-25 which is the same thing as the P-5, its an excellent cartridge for this table, I will be moving soon to either the Virtuoso or Maestro, both are MM, very lush rounded sounding.

I have heard the Scout with the Dynavector 380.00 cartridge (Troy's) every bit as good as the Rega and to some I am sure better, that Dynavector can track like nobody's business.

I don't know what upgrade your getting on the Rega, I have changed, my subplatter, platter and added Joe's clamp, sounds great.

After having looked at my options for my Scout, I would suggest the single plinth (Scout) with the Signature arm and the new Super Platter. I had thought of getting a ScoutMaster (probably the one you are looking at on Agon) and selling my Scout. I decided after reading as well as talking to VPI to use my funds to 'upgrade' to the Signature tonearm and the new platter. This should provide better results than having a double plinth (ScoutMaster).

The Dynavector 10x5 is a great cartridge and would be an excellent start. As for myself, I have moved on to a ZYX R-100FX(H)-SB cartridge for the Scout. This was a significant upgrade to the sonic characteristics.

    Good luck.

I auditioned many tables befor maknig my choice. It came down to the VPI Scout and Rega P5 with rega Exact cartridge and optional TTPSU. The Rega won out. I found the music to be more natural with the Rega, although the VPI is a great table. My ears told me Rega.

I would recommend checking out the offerings from Clearaudio, Pro-Ject, and JA Michell as well.

Keep in mind the expense of a good phono preamp. You don't want to blow your budget on a nice turntable just to limit it's abilities with a sub-par phono pre. (like I did)

I would also suggest putting some money into a good record cleaner.
