HD-DVD player for a Sony WEGA CRT TV, I know silly but....

I'm in the process of building a system for the In-laws and everything will be new\used except for the TV. The TV is an older SONY 36'' WEGA CRT. This set does have 1 component input on the back so I will run all sources to the receiver and then pass 1 component out to the TV.
The TV will not be upgraded until cable offers more channels in HD (In-laws decision, not mine). I would still like to purchase the Toshiba HA-1 or 2 for its up-scaling capabilities once they do purchase an HD TV. But for now, it will be going thru the receiver and to the TV at 480. Does anyone see an issue with this? I only ask because I don't think I have ever heard anyone buying the player for an older TV. I can understand why they would not since it is meant to play at 1080 but the new TV for them is not in the cards and I would rather not buy a regular player now and then buy another one in the future.
Thoughts?

the player will still work, you just have to make the settings in the player accordingly. I wouldnt say its an absolute waste of the player since you will plan to upgrade the screen to HDTV soon(near future). If youre looking for a player that does a great job at upconversion why not consider the oppo model as well. I say save half the coin and put it to other uses, no need to jump into the HD DVDp when you wont even notice a difference with the screen being used.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

I agree with Sherardp. I'd wait on the HD player and stick with standard DVD for the time being. Why put all your eggs in the HD-DVD basket this early? Who knows maybe Sony blue-ray will win this one.

Thanks Sherardp. I pulled the trigger a bit soon before having the chance to research the purchase of the Oppo player. I was able to pickup a used HDA2 player on the Gon so I will use it for the standard player for now. Hopefully well see some more HD cable channels within the next year. Once that happens, Ill convince them to upgrade their TV.
