LSi9s + sub vs LSi15s?
I'm currently debating whether to upgrade my current Lsi9 and SVS sub to the LSi15's Do the LSi15's put out enough bass to not require a sub?

For HT, definetly no. IMO, Keep the 9's and SVS.

For music, yes. For HT - not even close. The 15's and the SVS will sound great together though....

IMO, for HT, you just cant have enough "available" bass.. Dump the 9's for the 15's and keep the sub..

I'd keep the 9s, they offer much more versatility for placement. I've seen numerous mentions about the difficulty in getting the proper bass response out of 15s due to room placement issues, and even in its best configuration, they wouldn't match the output of the smallest SVS.For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

This is one of those things where you just have to do what you want to do. The LSi15 will be lacking for HT without a sub, but I prefer them over the LSi9s in overall sound. Others here have the opposite opinion -- so if you do drop the LSi9s, keep the SVS!

Keep the LSi9s and the sub. Then go buy the LSi15s. Move the 9s to the side or the rear and use the 15s for the fronts.
Best of both worlds.
My first time watching the Duran Duran concert in DTS, I had the volume cranking pretty good (-18 on the HK525). I forgot to turn on the Velodyne SPL1200 Series II. I didn't know my sub was off until I went to turn it off - I never turned it on. 15s have some bass...maybe not room filling low-end LFE type bass, but they aren't slouches.Do you hear that buzzing noise? -
I don't think the improvement will be worth the money spent. just my opinion.Michael

I would go with 9's and a sub as the 15's are placement particular,IMHOJC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

Why would you replace the SVS subs...? They are better than the built -in subs of the 15's.. The rest of the components between the 9's and 15's are the same. If you want smoother bass, just get another SVS sub to even out room standing waves. Much better investment then a pair of 15's...

Is the 8" driver in the 15's a sub-woofer or just a woofer?Michael

I'd argue they are subwoofers; they certainly extend the bass range of the 15's over the 9's by around 20 hz, but can't pressurize the room as well as any decent separate subwoofer (which makes sense since 8" clearly doesn't have a lot of surface area). This is why they're fine for music, which doesn't boast huge lfe tracks ala "War of the Worlds".Lovin that music year after year.

im pretty sure the driver is a woofer. also if you want smoother bass, then instead of adding another subwoofer, you should look into adding bass traps or bass panels. i use realtraps for mine.Speakers: LSi9 x 2, LSic, LSiFX x 2, Velodyne HGS-15
