Monitor 70 and RTi12 Crossover Q's

Hey guys, I have been lurking here for a little bit, as I am considering some new audio gear. I want a pair of new front speakers that just plain rock. I found some LS90s for a fair price, but they were damaged in shipping so I am back to square one. I was looking at the Monitor 70s and the RTi12s, and have some questions that boil down to what kind of volume I can expect from each one. I like the thought of moving lots of air with the RTi12s, but then I checked the specs, and apparently the three 7" drivers are crossed over for 120Hz and lower. I run both of my powered 12" subs in that same frequency range. So I guess I would effectively have only three drivers really doing any work. So I starting looking at the Monitor 70s too, but I don't really understand how the crossover is setup, although it seems that all of the drivers, less the tweeter, play up to 2.5KHz or so.

So given how I would cross them over anyway, would the Monitor 70 be a better overall rockin' choice than the RTi12?

Thanks,
Alex

Monitor 70? pffff. IF you're even considering the rti12, do yourself a favor and spend a benjamin more and opt for the lsi 15.

Well thanks for the welcome. I would certainly consider the LSi15, but not for this application. This one just needs to sound pretty good, and rock like all madness. I am also putting together a 2 channel rig for a different room, where I might put something like the LSi speaks.

Get the Monitor 70. It is going to sound good and be able to rock. Honestly, the RTis are a little bright and have less heft on the low end and that works great for a full home theatre system (where you want atmosphere and you leave the low end to a sub), you may not like them for rocking out. They are not as forgiving to your source material, they are very revealing, so many rock, modern rock, nu-metal, alternitive and ect. records are going to sound a little harsh.

I would say the monitor 70s would be a good balance... they are going to play loud and clear, but not be too bright as to make your ears bleed.

Then you can take the money you save and put it into that dedicated 2 channel system you are talking about.
