If I get an adapter to convert XLR to RCA will it put out a clean unbalanced output?
Thanks Ben

I use a XLR to RCA cable in my 2Ch. HT rig, and they are a lot quieter than the normal RCAs on my Sunfire......You can get Cardas adapters for about $70....

AS soon as you introduce RCA, it becomes unbalanced, regardless. I have had this issue myself with Denon 3805 and Behringer EP2500 pro amp set up.RTI 12 fronts

How did it come out SQ wise. Was it the same as normal rca's?

I think it depends on the gear you are using...The Sunfire pre/pros are a little noisy to begin with on the unbalanced side, so using the balanced outs on it helped out.....Give it a try and tell us how it goes..

I will be using an Outlaw 990, and all adcom amps. I sent an email to Outlaw to see if they use separate op amps for balanced, and unbalanced outs. I need to drive 3 stereo amps with passive line level crossovers, and that would present to low of an impedance for balanced outs. I am hoping to be able to use the RCA's for the highs, and the xlr's to split between the 2 mid woofer amps. I realize I may need to attenuate either the highs (most probable) to match the lows.
Thanks for the interest. I will post my findings.

As I understand it balanced basically just ties the chassis's together to prevent ground loop hums, am I correct.

I am using consumer AVR to pro amp, I had no choice. No RCA on the Behringer.RTI 12 fronts

How is the SQ, and problems with static or hum?

yeah//a little buzz...can only be heard from 2 feet or closer.
I am actually wondering if I should bi amp. Run the Behringer on the woofers only and the Denon 3805 on the RTI12 towers.
Ya think? I don't understand this stuff. If you set your speakers to small, how doe this have any benefit and why is it better than keeping the jumpers (I now use HQ speaker cable as jumpers) on and running it full range?RTI 12 fronts

I will have no inductors, or caps in my speakers except for the SDA crossover. I had done this once before, and the results were way better than upgrading the passive crossovers. I will put one cap in the tweeter circuit to protect against thumps.
I will keep you guys posted with my results. I am using Fmod passive in this project instead of an active XO.

Have you considered modifying your components for balanced ins/outs? I have a Rotel RC995, with both rca and xlr outs, and an RB991 amp with xlr in, and I am actively crossing with a Rane AC-22 with TRS inputs/outputs, but my Velodyne ULD-15 outboard amp/crossover is all RCA, so I have to break the chain.
I'd like to mod the ULD-15 for xlr's, and also my tweeter amp, so it could all be balanced. Any way to do this without spending a million bucks? -
I don't know. I have been dabbling in the electronics a little. I am going to be using Fmod passive in-line crossovers, but like in speakers the inputs of the amps affect the crossover points. It would be very interesting to see how hard it would be to convert an amp to balanced inputs. I have a lot going on with my new speaker design for now. I would also like to figure out if I could convert my adcoms inputs from 50k to 25k. That would solve my problems right there.
How do you like the rane for SQ?Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. In a balanced set up the noise is cancelled as the ground mirrors on the positive and negative, any introduction of rca single ended will effect the noise cancellation.

I can't report on the rane yet, because of the problem I was describing in the other thread. I tried my best, and have concluded that something in the amp shorted that the fuses didn't catch. Crap. So I gave up and took it to the shop.
I only had a few seconds to listen, and the woofers in the one speaker weren't on, but it sounded great for what it was. I hope to be able to update the thread on biamping LS50's with the results after I get my amp back.
I know that the balanced and unbalanced inputs on my amp are on two quite different circuits, so I think it would take a bit of work to do the mod; more than I can do.
