Polk speaker series question.

Hi all,

I'm new to HT and recently have started my search for speakers. I've auditioned Axiom and Klipsch speakers. Lately I've become interested in the Polk line up and had the following questions.

Concerning Polk speakers. What is the difference between a speaker like the RTi8 vs. the Monitor 70 speaker? Both are floor standing and pretty close in price. I was just curious what the difference between the Rti series and Monitor series might be.

Also, what kind of setup would you recommend for a room 12 x 23 x 7? Should I go with floorstanding speakers for this size of a room, or will the bookshelf speakers like the Rti6 be ok? My viewing is 90% movies and 10% music. I'd like something that sounds good for music though.

Thanks for you input.

I've heard both, but not side by side. The monitor line, while a great product at its price point, is a little forward for my taste, but, it should be noted that I like my sound pretty laid back, more than most.

the RTi line sounds a little more refined, for lack of a better phrase, in the mids and highs.

try to listen to both and judge for yourself if possible, but if your going with my opinion, I would say just do the RTi8. However, since your doing mostly home theater, a speaker being a little forward isnt a bad thing, so you wont go wrong with the monitor 70, I would just to the RTi8 if it was my choice.

even if the mon 7 goes a little deeper do to the driver compliment than the RTi8, it doesnt make much of a difference since you will be using them for mostly movies, and should have a sub crossed at 80 hz, so the deeper base you might get out of the monitors wont be heard anyway.

Rti6 shoudl still be ok in that room, but its on the larger side of OK, go RTi8 if possible and in your budget.

RTi series from what I heard will definitly be better for music, again, my opinion
