home theater suggestions requested
I am finishing my basement, I have recently purchased the following:
rti12 x2 fronts
csi5 center
psw505 sub
fxi5 sorrounds
amp is a yamaha rx-v2700
and a monster power unit as well
the question I have is:
is this sufficient? is 7.1 worth it? would I notice a difference? if so what 2 additional speakers would you recommend, and why? thanks in advance. I have spent a ton on this, I want it right, thanks.

Personally I wouldnt bother with 7.1 unless room dimensions are really out there. A note about the rti-12s: You may want to purchase an additional pro amp such as the berhinger ep1500/2500 to power the lower section of your mains. I use a 2500 and it makes a HUGE difference over using just the reciever for power.Sharp Aquos 32d62u

Agreed on all points with bob0129. You'll want/need more power to run those 12s effectively. 7.1 is a reach I don't find worth the bother.HT/music rig

I would say depending on room size and placement. If you have the room size go for it(7.1), definitely amp those rti 12s up. You should check out Outlaw Audio, I went with the M2200 monos for the 12s, then just added another for my CSi5. I may add another 2 for my surrounds, they are good amps and sound well also.If you can swing it, go for a 5 or 7 channel.
And last but not least, Welcome Aboard .Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

I can go 7.1 but just havent done it. to me, until more movies are specifically in that format, the juice will not be worth the squeeze. again, thats just my .02 and take nothing away from folks that got there 7.1 onLiving Room 2 Channel -

Welcome Danac.
Instead of going 7.1 you should invest in a separate amplifier of at least 200wpc. Make sure that it is one for Home theater equipment & not a pro-amp.
If you can, get a 5 channel one & be done with it. It will save you from upgrading bit by bit. The amp will stay with you through all future upgrades.
It will also make it easier to go to a separate prepro in the future since your amplification will be all set.
Rotel, Parasound, Nad, Sunfire, Adcom, Outlaw are ones usually recommended around here.
Keep an eye on our Flea Market, & also Audiogon for a good used one.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
thanks for the advice guys, I will take a look at an amp and hold off on 7.1 for now.

Get an extra amp for your mains (make sure your AVR has pre-outs) and why not go with 6.1?

6.1 might be a viable option, how do you hook up the rear center? what outputs on the amp do you use for that? thanks. I know the amp has pre-amp outs for adding amps, and I know it can do 7.1 the amp I have is the current high end 7.1 from yamaha, there is only one step up i can make and that unit is almost 10k...so um that isnt going to happen
