The HDMI input is bigger on the tv?
I would assume they should all be the same size...regardless of age..
hmmm
someone else will probably know what you are talking about..Pioneer Elite VSX-53, Polk RT800i fronts, Polk CS400i center, FX500i surround, Velodyne sub -
I know Nothin about HDMI. I have never used it and have been lazy about keeping up on the new versions so I am lost on it.Michael

I have a tv about 2 years old and the slots are the same..thats wierd..Marantz 1607 - Polk S60 - S35 - Emotiva XPA-3 - Polk DSWPRO550wi

Don't take this as insulting, but you're sure the slot on the tv is HDMI and not DVI? If that's the case this would work.
My sony has a DVI, but no HDMI slot, so that was the 1st thing i thought of.

HDMI is a standard size that has not changed since inception.
DVI is a completely different connection that is different in shape, size, and configuration.
But, HDMI and DVI are pin compatible, which means they can be used together in most cases with an adaptor.
Maybe this will shed some light and help you on your way to finding the correct cable (which I assume would be an HDMI to DVI cable)

If the slot is larger then HDMI then it probably isn't HDMI and could be RGB or DVI. RGB has 15 pins, DVI I can't remember but it has threads on either side to screw in and has pins and a metal piece that RGB doesn't...and it is more then 15 pins.

I have used DVI before and they look nothing alike. (I am not insulted) I'm going to pull the TV out again to see if I was seeing things. From what you are all telling me I must be wrong. (happens sometimes)Michael

Samsung DLPs used DVI in the past before HDMI, and they also had a RGB and touted them as being able to be hooked up to a PC. If you know what a DVI looks like then I assume it is a RGB connection.
The only other thing I can think of is a RS-232 connection or a USB, but I don't think the older units had the USB.
If you know the model of the TV I could tell you exactly what it is.

I agree with Jared, make sure its not a USB port, and take a pic if youre unsure, or of course you could post tv model so it can be researched.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

The only other plug I can think of that could possibly be confused for an HDMI would be a firewire? That would look smaller than your normal HDMI plug though; and I've never seen a tv with a firewire port...2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champ

Can you post a picture of it?
But I'm thinking Jflail2 is correct Firewire maybe? Or you could post the make and model of TV so someone could pulled to manual to help you out.

There are sets with firewire but they are few and far between. I know Mitsubishi uses it to link components together with their netcommnad(?) system. but don't believe Samsung ever used it.

My TV has firewire ports. It was common a couple years ago on sets that had internal tuners, TVGOS, and cable card slots. They have pretty much discontinued the use of them now though. However, I'm pretty sure that the firewire connections on most TV's are the mini sized ones that would be hard to be confuse with HDMI.
MSALLA, if your HDTV is only 2-3 years old (assuming it wasn't a NOS model from more than 4 years ago) it should definitely have either DVI or HDMI. Check your owners manual or the manufacturers website. For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...
