I got my 360 for christmas and love it to death.. except when playing Oblivion sometimes the game freezes and disc stops spinning so fast then it resumes play like normal with the exception of the slow spinning disc which is nice because its silent but is this a problem with the game or my console?

but.. it mostly does it only on oblivion.. and its not even that old.. it does it SOMETIMES on other games but very very rarely.. could my laser just need cleaned? it makes a sound like the laser trying to focus on the disc properly but i've never had any problems beyond this no lights nothing .. anyone else ever have my problem?

I've had this problem as well. I think its just oblivion as it doesn't happen with any other game. The major problem usually occur when the game is saved or being saved during a unique part of the game that may change slightly on the next load. Make sure you have more than one save game file.

yes mine has done it while saving also but it mostly does it while loading an area. Condemned has done it a couple times on it.. perhaps the console is fine and the laser just cant keep pace sometimes and farts?

From what I've heard, its the shear amount of information. The systems gets bogged down at times and just hiccups.

As long as alll your lights are green, I think you're fine.

Its not the console. Its the game. Search the web and there is tons of information posted about this very problem.

Funny you should post this as I exited a shop today and the machine froze up for the first time on oblivion. I had to walk over and reset it and it played fine afterwards. Although everytime it took a long time to load an area, I half expected the thing to freeze again. I also have read errors on clean disks so I think where ever MS sourced their DVD drives from puts out some really crappy stuff.
Save often. That's what I do. As long as the thing works reasonably well, it's your call on sending it in to get it fixed. From what I understand on the other broken 360 threads here, you won't get your same box back anyways. Somebody else's serviced 360 will make its way back to you. Not knowing what may come back to me will keep me pushing mine until I see the 360 red rings of death. -
my 360 is under 2 year store warrenty at Nebraska Furniture Mart and its linked to the serial number so that would never work getting back a different console as for the loading slow hold down the A button until the Bethesda screen loads it'll clear the cache but it never fixes the freezing problem completely ._. i hope my 360 holds out until the 65nm chips come out then ill just swap mine out for one i think the warrenty is only good for one exchange during the 2 year period i know EB Games is like that then you must buy a new warrenty

Hey fellas,
this has been a known issue for a long time here is how you fix it.....
Oblivion uses the Xbox 360 hard drive to cache game data and in some cases the info stored on the hard drive can get fragmented, slowing down the game's performance. Bethesda has already found out a way to fix the issue. Here is the official word:
Oblivion uses the Xbox 360 hard drive extensively to cache (copy and reuse) game data. This is done to optimize all loading the game does. It has been found in rare cases on some Xbox 360s that the cached data can get overly fragmented. This exhibits itself by the game taking a long time to load anything from menus, dialogue, sounds, objects, levels, and more.
To solve this problem, reset your Xbox, and hold down the A button as the game is booting up. If any button is held while Oblivion is loading, it will clear its hard drive cache, and create a new one.
Once you see the Bethesda Softworks logo video, the game is already loaded, and the cache should have been cleared.
Note, this does not effect your game in any way other than loading. You will not lose any saved data.
