Ok you guys... My wife bought me this for Xmas, and I played it for about 4 or 5 hours and quite frankly, I just couldn't get into it.

I know it was raved about as one of the top games of all time, but I just didn't get it... I am thinking about putting it back in this week and trying it again, but really, does it get any better than the first bit?! Walking around lost, trying to pick up objects, then getting stuck because you can only carry so much weight... and then your weapon becomes totally dull from fighting and you can't sharpen it anywhere... i mean common... a sword shouldn't dull just because you kill a rat should it?! :D

Anyways, I know Demi has played this, who else and please tell me it will be worth my time!! HA.

I'm in the same boat. 6 hours of playing time, love the concept of the game and I'm sure it lives up to the praises, but I simply don't have the time to invest in getting started and building the character up. Too bad they don't have cheat that gives you an established character with potions, lots fighting experience and decent weapons.

The hard part with the elderscrolls series are that you are intentionally at a loss of what to do at the beginning and as you figure out what you can do and how you get stronger and stronger, it gets more fun.

If you keep hitting the stones with your sword while trying to hit a rat then it will get dull.
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

I got it a while back and just didn't get into it (doesn't help that I'm hooked into BF2 and don't have the time to play it either). RPG's are fun but I still do miss the good'ol'days of D&D, paper and dice.

Once you get a badass character, then you aren't hiding from fights and getting killed off all the time. Then you have more time to just enjoy the various storylines. Of course you have to like these kinds of games to begin with.

There are ways to cheat. For instance, after you join the guilds, you can basically loot every guildhouse and sell off what you don't need. That was the turning point for me as I could finally get decent weapons and armor and buy the training I wanted. It then became less about just scraping by and finally doing the stuff I wanted to do. The higher you get, the less your armor wears down, and you eventually get to repair your stuff above baseline for extra damage.

first of all MOST stuff in the guilds can be stolen without consequence but a few things cant be somethings in the mages guild cant . and the game is boring at first but what game isn't :) try the arena in the imperial city good way to waste time or set your difficulty all the way up :)

Yes - the game starts a bit slow and takes time to get going. Once you get past a certain point then things pick up, make more sense, and are a lot more fun. I've played Daggerfall, Morrowind, and now Oblivion - and I didn't complete the 'main quest' on any of the three but played for many hours on each (especially Daggerfall and Morrowind...). I like just wandering around, doing side quests, and rising in the guilds.

I'm anxious to get the new add on they just released.

That was after my RPG gaming was over, I played (A)D&D back in the 80's and then military and college killed it off. You need a really good Dungeon Master for it to be fun, but if you have one it's much better than any computer game.

Oblivion's not a game that you can just turn on for a few minutes...you can play that game for hours and really accomplish pretty much nothing.
