hello i'm wondering if i could get a few suggestions from you good o'l experienced ears for a floor standing pair for $400 dollars besides the Monitor 50... i own a Onkyo TX-SR304, listen to alot of Christian rock(Hillsong), pop/hiphop, R&B... no rap whatsoever... i want the very warm and "comforting"? kind of sound... my friend has a pair of Pioneer speakers which was said to color the sound due to minimal internal bracing but it just sounds so sweet to my ears... its paired up with an HK AVR140-a 40WPC 5.1 receiver... is there anything out there for me at that price?

i was thinking that it was the three-way configuration on the pioneer stereo... i dont have much experience with three-ways... i checked out sony, pioneer, polk, bose and all the regulars at CC and BB but i dont know...... what can i do??? im so going nuts!

I would bet a lot of the warmth your friends system has comes from the HK.

I am not sure what your source is, CD player or radio or? But if using a CD Player a cheaper suggestion is to try different interconnects. I found with my setup using Monster interconnects from the CD to receiver music was painfully bright. However switching to the Audioquest Sidewinder interconnects took the bright edge off and I could then listen to it again. Just a thought and it might save you some money.

well most good new speakers are going to cost you more then $400, so look at used instead.. more listening bang for the buck.

    good luck.

You can find RTi8s on Ebay for around $450-500. I buy lots of speakers these days for friends and my own constantly rotating collection and I only buy used. The price difference is amazing on a product that doesn't really wear out if used properly.

You would be better served by giving your money to an Asian massage parlor than owning a pair of Infinity loudspeakers, they just stink.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I was going to mention that Infinity might not be his best choice...but you said it much more eloquently than I ever could have…

There is a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 5i for sale on Audiogon in CT for $400. Dual 5 1/2" drivers. I'd check them out.

I'll sell you my Rti8s for $450. You can check out pics of them on my showcase. If you'd like, I can send you other pics later. I'll even throw in 40Ft of BJC cabling. They have aboslutely no marks and are less than a year old. Since I've moved up to my Lsi15s, I rarely use them. I have the original boxes as well with manuals and all. Where in NY do you live. I might be able to drive them up to you or meet you half way.

Wouldn't the RTi8's sound similar to the RTi4's? Same tweeter.

There are some similarities I'm sure, but my RTi6 has a clearly different sound than the RTi8s. After all there are two woofers and a larger enclosure. The bass extension is far greater (pretty damn good for speakers of this design I ight add as well.) My Rti6s are a little more laid back while the Rti8s are more forward. The extra bass extension definitely provides a warmer sound.

Thanks very much for the offer solidsqual but i think i found out the issue... Ports. I dont favor ports. or atleast speakers that have huge ones... my friends Pioneer has an active 6.5 and a 6.5 passive R. i think thats whats also helping me love the sound. i found myself to never really like ported enclosures... which is also the reason im in love with Sunfire subs. and the Rti4 has two ports.
although the ARC port is suppose to help with midrange and vocal and stuff, when i put my ear to the ARC port, i can hear the resonance from the enclosure... maybe my ears are able to pick up the tiny emmitence(is that even spelled correctly?) from the port... im still discovering my ears. only 18 and havent been to the world of speakers even 5%.
in this case, it seems DIY would be the best way :(. its not my time now for DIY. but i'd sure be proud to show off my 3 way tower that stands 52 inches high, with 90dB sensitivity, a smooth tweeter, a beautiful dome midrange and one or two 6.5 inch woofers with a pR or two...

    Cheers to the future!
Thanks for all the help you guys!:D each input helped me on my way.:p
