The Rti8s are sensitive speakers so that should be enough power to run them. The real question is, "how hard and loud do you want to run them?" If you listen to quiet jazz while reading a book then I think you will be fine; however if you prefer to listen critically on the edge of your couch with your ears balanced perfectly in the sweetest part of the sweet pot all while jamming out to some hard rock or some illuminating and demanding orchestral pieces then I would suggest getting a separate amp. You would also notice a difference from a higher end receiver, but your money would be better spent using the Onkyo as a pre/pro and getting a good amp like NAD, Parasound, Adcom, Rotel, etc. That way when upgraditis comes again, you can pick up a nice preamp and sell you receiver to some other polkie starting out. That' my two cents. I bought a HALO A23 used on ebay and absolutely loved the improvement that it provided for my old Rti8s. (my previous receiver was a Yahama HTR5890 - roughly 120wpc. )

Ty for ur info and YES i do like to play them loud!!!! I will have to look into a good amp to get the best results but i was hoping not to buy one for now.

The onkyo should be able to go loud. They make good receivers. But, you won't get the full benefit of you Rti8s w/o a separate amp. Try it out for yourself.

FWIW, I ran 8's on my HK335 for about a yr. While it did the trick, it's nothing compared to having them amped. The amp made the speakers come to life. I hear everything now. Sure it can play loud but it plays better details.
