I know, pick 2 out of 3. I love the LSi15. Just curious to hear what you all have heard. I'm looking for a set of speakers (2 channel), preferably floor not bookshelf and sub, that is as musical as the LSi15 but aren't so darn hard to drive, preferably 8ohms with a 90+ sensitivity, and less than $2000 a pair. I also prefer laid back and warm. I love my RTi6 but the entire RTi series is a bit bright and forward for music.

I listen to classical, jazz, new wave, pop, alternative, and rock.

Am I asking the impossible?

Thx for your feedback.

You should look into a used PSB stratus series. The old stratus is very musical and you can probably get Stratus Golds for way under 2k on the used market.

My records show you can get that for about 1800.

    EXCELLENT* speaker.
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Why not keep the LSi's and spend the money on a decent 2 ch amp. That's the best alternative here IF the only problem is you need more juice to do them justice. Why throw out the baby with the bath water?

I just re-read your post. Do you own the LSi 15's yet? I assumed you did when I replied. My opinion still stands but it's not as strong an argument if you don't already have the 15's.

if thats your budget for a speaker, you should have budgeted for adequate amplification anyway, unless you want to go the lower powered tube route or something. As hard as the LSi's are to drive, its easier to find good used amplification then to sell an LSi15 you paid retail for then buy a new set of speakers that....8 ohms be damned....might still not be brought to full potential by substandard amplification.

Nope, I have rti6's. I was just wondering if there's an alternative to the 15's that may be a bit easier to drive but it looks like I may need to upgrade my electronics first.

    Thx!

Haven't bought anything yet but you're right. Will look into upgrading electronics first.

Currently $2400 (none under the used link yet). Even at $1800, wouldn't I be better off getting LSi15's for a fuller range or are those Linbrook Floorstanding that so much better?

Get out there and listen. Advice and opinions are just that, nothing more.

Example, there is nothing wrong with Von Schweikert speakers - they are 'all the rage' right now. I spent countless hours listening to new models, even brought home an 'affordable' pair of used VR4. Not my cup of tea, they just don't do it for me. That being said, there are a lot of VR owners, even right here on this forum, that are as happy as a fat kid with a cupcake, more excited than a **** in the bouncy balls, grinning ear to ear like Brettw22 with a wheelbarrow full of buttholes, etc etc.

I suggest you spend some time, lots of it, and enjoy yourself listening, demoing. Find 'your' sound, what you really like - and you'll know where you need to start building your own reference rig.

    Cheers,
    Russ

If you love these speakers, as you said, then buy them!!
Just know that you need LOTS of power to drive them.
~Just~ like any good speaker available out there.

Your rig will only be as good as its weakest link.
Quality speakers require a lot of quality power to REALLY sing.

Point taken. I only ask because sometimes when you don't know what you don't know you have a tendency to find out what everybody else is listening to just for a point of reference or direction.

This has been a fun audio odyssey and this forum has contributed alot to it.

    Thx, Russ

We've got 15's as our mains, we often use them on 2 channel as that's how we listen to music most of the time. They sounded ok attached directly to our Integra AVR, but with the addition of the Carver @400WPC, the 15's really sing. If we had only a 2 channel setup, we'd still have the 15's as our mains. This is our experience, and our SUBJECTIVE experience, your mileage may vary. You should be able to get the 15's well below $1500 now. Geoff is a drummer; we recently got rid of our S10’s and M3’s and velo sub and moved up. We’re really pleased with LSi’s, and we listen to everything ([ABC to Beethoven to Zappa] as you can see from the rack; there's really nothing to listen to...)

Take your favorite music and listen to it with different equipment and speakers. Your ears are the only true judgement.

I love how music can brighten up a bad day.
