I hope this will be my last post on setting up new system. Sure teaches humility. I don't understand this 12 volt trigger thing. I use to think they were used for projection screens or other peripherals. The manual says that this can be used to turn amp on and off with the preamp. I have them connected, I think correctly, and the amp does not shut down when preamp is turned off. (oh, and how about that brady quinn)...

The 12V trigger is used to power multiple units on and off from one. In other words, the 12V trigger would run from your receiver to your amp. By powering the receiver up and down with your remote the amp will follow suit.Michael

Well, I reconnected this. The cable is only a couple feet long and I only have access to equipment from front side...solid back on stand (with the little hole of course). I am running the trigger line from the preamp out to the amp in and turned "on" on the amp. The amp also has a trigger out. The amp does not go off and on with preamp...I am doing something wrong.
Oh, and the instructions for this remote, which I read good things about, seem a bit brief..I can't even figure out how to set the clock on it. Thanks for the help. I just redid a two channel set up to get a break from HT. -
Is there only one 12v trigger port on the amp. If there are two then the second one may have to be terminated. I remember having problems with a 12v trigger with my Rotel amp. Try turning both the amp and pre on and then power down the pre with the remote. Try a few different things and it may sync in. The Rotel amp was like that.Michael

Thanks.

If amp is Rotel, the trigger puts the amp in low-power 'standby', and the power light on the front will stay on. Drove myself nuts with this until I called dealer (not a guy thing to do)-have used this way for several years-does save kilowatts and gives quick access to power, rather than waiting for amp to come on line.
Hope this helps.Skip -
NeilGabriel - Did you get it to work?
That being said, does anyone know where I can get a 12v trigger cable or have one that they do not need. There are no RS stores here and the one Audiotronics store we have here is Yellowknife does not have them. I have one but need one more. Thanks.Michael

janmike,
Is there anywhere you can buy 1/8" mono mini jacks and some wire? It's really east to make a cable.
And Radioshack does ship to your home if needed:

I even tried is get the 1/8" mono mini jacks and they did not have them. I am really remote, so availability is extremely limited. Fresh air, bears and LARGE fish.Michael

Niel,
Check the back of the amp, my Rotel's have a switch for the trigger with three settings: "off" "auto sense" "12v trigger". -
trigger is a horse LOLengtaz
I love how music can brighten up a bad day. -
Does it have to be a mono jack? A stereo 1/8" jack would work right? I've never actually done the whole 12v trigger thing either so I have no idea.
Mike, I'll try and pick one up in the next few days and I'll ship it off to you. -
Thanks Mike. Let me know all the costs including shipping and I will send it to you. Thanks again. Anything you need?Michael

Too many Mikes here. My 12v trigger was operator error. I didn't realize the blue light stayed on on the amp when it went off with trigger. I should have known from red protection circuit lights clicking on and off. Live and learn. Mike (and hooray for Mike W.) Hey, janmike, let's get together when I go fishing in Red Lake, Ontario this fall...oh wait, you're still 5,000 miles from there.

Come to Yellowknife. The fish are about 20 to 30 pounds heavier.Michael
