4 LSi 9's w/ a Denon 2087?

I just got a second set of lsi-9's (4 Ohm) as my surrounds to accompany my lsi9 fronts. It was a good deal, and my usage is 99% music, so I wanted the 4 identical speakers and I picked up the second pair today.

I have the Denon 2087, and it seems that I should be pretty safe using it with these speakers, but I'm a little worried. "Don't crank it ridiculously loud" is a bit imprecise for me!

Any suggestions with the current equipment? Expensive amp is not really an option at the moment.

Thanks for the help!

You can find quality amps on Audiogon. Adcom, Carver, Sunfure, Outlaw,Parasound are a few that come to mind here on the forums. I would say and Im sure most would agree that you should take some of the strain off the Denon and at least go with a 2 channel. If it were me though, I would opt for at least a 5 channel amp with at least 200 watts/channel. 4 LSi 9s Im sure that does sound good in multichannel stereo. Audiogon will be your best friend, I cant stay off that site.

I ran a pair of LSi 15's and a pair of 9's off a Denon 3805 for a short while. It should be fine; just make sure you have adequate ventilation for the amp. When you can afford a better amp, you should notice a nice jump in sound quality...just make sure you save up enough to get something significant. The Outlaw M200's I had weren't that much better than the Denon for the 9's - but the PS Audio HCA2 was a nice improvement, for only $700 used (the new Trio is suppoed to be better for the same money).

Agreed with Sherardp; audiogon should become your new best friend. There are some great deals to be had there! I doubt I'll ever buy a brand-new amp again. Though I doubt I'll be thinking about any amp for a long time now that I got my lovely JC-1's :D

Thanks! Big helps. I will take the advice & get something decent for an amp. I've never used an external amp, so I'll need to figure it all out, but I'm sure those are good starts (and I'll be back with more questions!). Thanks again.

Just make sure you check out how many preouts are on the back of the Denon 2807. That will determine what channels you can use an external amp on.

I added an Emotiva LPA-1 to my LSI setup....LSI 15's, C, and FX. For $500 it was a major improvement in sound from my old receiver, a Sony STRDA4ES. I now use the Sony as a pre-amp and it all sounds super! Good luck.

I too am running a Denon AVR-2807. Before I got my amp, I was driving my two LSi-9s and a LSiC. The amp would shut down regularly. I highly recommend getting an external amplifier. Your Denon will get mad at you if you don't.
