ceiling mounts for projectors?

I haven't had a lot of time to search the forums for this but I thought I'd throw it up in the meantime. Anyone found a cheap ceiling mount for a projector? It's an average benq (have to check what model number later) that'll be hung from the usual 1.5 by 4 foot tile things found in offices. Hoping to find something locally.

Any ideas? I'm not opposed to going semi-diy as long as it's not a big project and will still look professional since this is going in the company boardroom.

Thanks,
Mike.

You won't be able to hang the projector from the ceiling tiles (if they're the kind I'm picturing). I'm assuming you'll have to attach the mounting bracket to the actual ceiling above the tiles and poke the bracket through a hole in the tiles.

I bought this one from Costco. I haven't mounted the projector yet, but I've taken the bracket out of the box and it seems like it's decent quality. And this is one of the cheaper ones I've seen.

Great price considering everything else I've looked at. Thanks for the link. The ceiling is a false ceiling and all there is above it is concrete. I think we're looking for something that will mount to the tile frame (on the corner of four tiles). I've seen projectors mounted on the same type of ceiling but I'm not sure how it was done. It sounds like the easiest way is how you described by cutting a hole in the tile, but I don't think we're able to mount ours to anything but the tile frame.

Link to ceiling pic - not actual location but it's the same idea (just above my desk)

Looks like we're going to need something like this... (link) . Only problem is that there's probably two or three feet between the actual ceiling (concrete) and the false ceiling (tiles). I'm thinking it'll be way easier to just convince my boss to leave it on the desk ;)

I would think you'd be able to remove one of the tiles, drill some holes in the concrete and put some heavy duty anchors in the concrete and hang the projector mount from that. Then just cut a small circular hole in the tile and poke the projector mount through that. I'm pretty sure you can get concrete anchors that hold a lot of weight (although I'd make sure they're very solid because it's going to be pulling straight down, not like hanging a picture on a wall).

That other mount looks cool too. It's not that expensive, but you'd have to buy it and an actual projector mount to attach to it.

    Good luck.

After looking at the options it looks like it's either buy the tile mount + a normal mount and still have to drill into the concrete OR go with the costco one and just mount that directly do the concrete. I think the costco route will be about a third the price and not much more, if any work. I measured it out and the costco mount should be long / tall enough to make it to the concrete and still poke through the tile.

    Thanks for the help.

I also think that would be the best install, but to get both the ceiling adapter and actual mount will run us around $300 locally. We were quoted $330 for a Bretford TPMUNI2 and Bretford TPM8PLATE  . It may be worth the price to go that route for a very clean install, but with that costco mount sitting at under a hundred it might be a little too expensive to go that way.

Really appreciate all the help. Time to talk to the boss and see what he wants to do.

EDIT: Great new dilemma. The BenQ mp611c will not work with the conventional projector mounts. It doesn't even have the mounts on the bottom... none. I think we're stuck with either one of the drop down shelf style mounts or duct tape. The projector is dark blue - they make dark blue duct tape. I say it's a perfect match ;)
