Proud new owner...OF A STATION WAGON!

I know it sucks but hey there wasn't much of an option for me at this current time. My wife likes it, it suits me fine being a 5-speed and it's not bad looking for a station wagon. It's a 96 Saturn SW1 with 6 3/4" in the fronts and 6 3/4 in the rear hatch. Now...what kinda system can we do with that? I still would like to have either Polk SR6500's, Alpine Type X or Rockford Fosgate Power T162S? I know you'll say the Polk's but what kinda custom sub thing can we do in the back and still be able to keep my space to get groceries and everything? This is the dilemma I'm in.

Yes there is.... the nice thing is that the bass will not have to go through the seats, so a smaller driver can also be used.Alpine: CDA-7949

Definitely. Subs and hatchbacks offer endless possibilities.
Check out JL Stealthboxes or some other vehicle specific enclosures. I dont know if they have one for your model but if they do they can give you some ideas.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

.... and the vastly increased interior air space means he'll need more subs to actually get the same 'boom' of a single sub in a small cab. And now we know why an 80's pickup truck with an all steel tiny cab is so damn phat. The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge

JL Audio? Hmm...interesting. They have some pretty hard hitting subs. Is that the sub and custom enclosure or just the enclosure. I would still like to keep Polk all the way around.
-
Looked at the Stealbox. Guess what? Nothing for a Saturn whatsoever. So what else can we do? I'm actually going to pick up my check in a minute, and I'm gonna ask my car installers up there what we can do. Then after I get back in a little bit I'll report back and tell y'all what I've come up with and see what y'all think or if y'all have any other suggestions.

Wingnut... the next time you stop a Saturn on the highway for speeding.... give the guy a break and tell him that the ONLY reason you are letting him go is because he is driving a Saturn.
I can seriously picture you as a Saturn Sales Representative. I think that is a better calling for you than catching bad guys.

I can't bust on the wagons, I am looking to buy a R36 Passat wagon....

Well if there's a million different possibilities I still cant think of one. Can anybody give me some suggestions on some kind of a custom enclosure so I still dont lose grocery space, cause this still has to be a grocery getter also.

not really in a car you have to go through the back seats. Also in a car you have compression in the trunk which will eat a few dbs. Station wagons are awesome for systems. I had one when I was 16-17 with 2 12' kicker comps eating only 75 watts, a lot of my friends had 10's, 12's with 200 watts and I was as loud if not louder than most of them. On another note I had a friend that I built a 6th order band pass for it was in a thunderbird and It took up a good chunk of the trunk the funny thing was if you hit the trunk pop button the system would get twice as loud, and that is how I found out about compression. so if your gonna use a band pass in your trunk have the port(s) going thru the read deck to help avoid compression. -
A small enclosure with a solid 10" sub should do the trick. Wont eat up too much space and will still give you good output.
You can also try a very good 8" sub. The RL-i8 from Soundsplinter can go into a very small box, and can sound still get loud.

I had the 10" version and was very happy with both the output and sound. Great bang for the buck sub.

What about one of the Kicker solo's? 8" or 10"
-
Or one 10" SR104-DVC?
-
or how about 6 6.5ers in a sealed box
-
Are you joking or are you serious?
-
why not with that many you should still be able to go fairly deep and definatly keep up the SQ.
-
Maybe so, but youd eat up a lot more room with a box big enough for 6, 6.5's.
I suggest a good 12" with at least 500 watts.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Shoot, man, now that you've got all that space for a sub, I'd most definitely go with MTX's 30 some odd inch subwoofer!!

I think that a solid 10" woofer will be very effective in both ouput, and conserving space.Alpine: CDA-7949

LOL Are you talking about the MTX Jackhammer? Dude I seen that on Pimp My Ride and that's freaking insane! How about a Polk SR 12"? Where can I hide that so I can still keep all my space? Also I have the wife and kids ride with me too, my rear speakers are in the hatch door what could I put in there to blend seamlessly with my SR6500 up front? -
You could go with any 10 or 12" sub, sealed, and get nice solid output in the wagon. If you want to conserve some cargo space, there are a number of 10s (the Polk SR104 comes to mind) that will do very well in a nice 1 cubic foot sealed box. An SR124 will cost you 1.25 cubic feet of space in a sealed application.
You could build that as a wedge-shaped enclosure, with the back of the enclosure butting up against the rear seatback, sub facing rearwards towards tailgate. You could also go with fiberglass and save even more space (but that'll up the cost/labour factor). Either way, that's a fairly small box that'll provide some nice SQ-oriented output and not consume massive amounts of cargo space. -
Well I dunno what I should do yet. How about we go 1 step at a time shall we? I might have the money to do every bit of it tomorrow, and then again I might not have the money till next week it's just that crazy having 5 kids. First thing's first...I have to get rid of the piece of **** factory tape deck.
-
I'm also wanting to fix up the motor and suspension and everything a little bit also, so I have to take that into stereo budget consideration too.
-
Whao. You have a station wagon. A SATURN station wagon. And you're going to dump money into the engine and the suspension??
