HDMI/DVI Confusion

Sorry, it has been awhile since my last post - that is what happens when you have a new child I guess :p
Anyway, could someone please provide some guidance for me. I have a Monster HDMI/DVI cable (because my cable company did not have a HDMI connection on the cablebox) and I recently switched to Dish Network. A couple questions - 1) Does the HDMI/DVI only provide the video signal? 2) If that is true, if I purchase an adapter would the cable now provide video as well as audio?

Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you!

Isn't it pretty much the consensus that you don't want to use HDMI for audio anyway? Digital Coax or Optical is the way to go.

It is??? Why would you say that?? Coax or Optical does NOT have the bandwidth that HDMI can handle.

    1.) Yes.

    2.) No.

I might not be understanding you quit well, but you are saying that you do have DishNetwork and the box will accept an HDMI cable along with your display?

Thanks for the responses. Mike, yes my DishNetwork box supports HDMI, but not the DVI input, which is the same as my Samsung LCD. I'm just trying to figure out a way to save this cable, since it did cost a few bucks. I need to figure out what else I need to purchase - so it sounds like probably an adapter for DVI to HDMI, as well as possibly an optical cable for the audio.

    Husker,

Connect your DishNetwork box to your display using the HDMI/DVI cable. For audio you will need to connect an optical or SPDIF connection from the Dish box to your receiver.
