Hey Guys,

I just picked up a pair of used RT600 speakers. They are in good shape, but one of the tweeters is fried. Polk has replacements, but they are pricey and different than the originals, so might need to get two, which would come out to be much more than the speakers are worth.

So, if anyone has a spare RT600 Trilam Tweeter, help a brother out!!! I'm willing to pay or trade.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have Monitor 5B's and the tweeter replacement was well worth it and yes @ 48 each, they equal what I paid for them but I listen to them everyday.

may have to just bite the bullet. I got a CS400 as well with the RT600s, maybe sell that to pay for the tweeter upgrade and a little in the pocket as well.

If I don't sell the CS400, I'll end up trying to build a whole new HT setup, and that will cost me a pretty penny.

Does, the CS400 have the same trilam as the 600? If so, drop that one in the 600, and maybe just add the new replacement to the center. Or keep the center for driver spares, or even part it out and put the money towards a different CS400.

    Just a thought.

Finding a trilam will likely be challenging.

    FWIW -

The tweeter upgrade for the older RT series is the not the same for the older Polk series.

I find the replacement of the tri-lam to be a serious downgrade in overall detail.

    YMMV.

Perfect. I will put the Center tweeter into the RT600 so the two are sonically the same, drop a new replacement tweeter in the CS400, and sell it off as "upgraded" or maybe even "modded."

    :)

Polk service told me "the Tweeters are compatible and can be used together."

    Not hardly...

The replacement is a silk dome...

the tril am is a silk base with three metal laminates. It is a more detailed and forward tweeter.

    Again, IMO - YMMV

As Trey says, the tri-lam in the RT series is one of more desirable tweeters and series overall. That was a very nice sounding tweet and the replacement while electrically compatible will sound different and probably not better. I guess it depends on how critical a listener you are. I know Trey is, and as for myself I would hear the difference pretty readily.

Get an original tri-lam if at all possible.

Okay, found a pair of RT400s locally on eBay. Figure it would be nice to have some replacement tweeters and drivers. Also, the other tweeter looks a little rough, too. Not torn like the other one, but doesn't look smooth and new around the edges.

No one bid on them, please!!!

Not sure the RT400 has trilams, might want to check pics.

The 400 has a Silk dome, ala RT3.

That, and I've always wanted a pair........ hmmmm

Good, then you get them, Russ, hold on to them for a bit, then sell them to me at an insanely low price. . . like you do with other gear :)

Damn, the tweeters are different on the RT400s, so that really doesn't help me at all.

But, I'm still gonna get these RT400s and just toss the RT600s or sell them for cheap.

The original tweet is the best one IMO. Alot smoother and detailed than its replacements.

Well, it's either going to be: Find a spare/used pair of original trilams on the cheap

or, sell the RT600 for parts and get some working speakers

    Hi Bvette,

Thanks for your response. Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I hooked up the speakers (bought used for cheap) and found both tweeters to be damaged. I got a deal on two new replacement tweeters from Polk, so all is well now.

Thanks for your offer, tho. The 6502 is the original match, I believe. The ones Polk offers now are 6515, I think. Do you have one or two of the 6502s? I might get them for comparison and/or backup for these new ones.

AndyGwis - Do you still have the RT600's? How do they sound with the replacement 6515's? I too have a pair of RT600's that have one damaged tweeter. Trying to determine if I should try and find an original or go with the replacements.

If you only need one, I'd first try to find a spare original here, or ebay, or wherever.

The replacements are fine, but you'd have to buy two, and I think the originals probably sound slightly better.
