Backlighting for a Sony XBR TV

I am pondering adding some backlighting for my Sony tube (34"), but wanted to see what the experts had to say before wasting any $$. I have heard that it can make viewing movies at night much more pleasing, as your eyes aren't strained when looking at the picture in the dark, but I wasn't sure if there was a drawback to this or not.
I was pondering using an LED strip, possibly like this one:
Strip 1 (in white of course)
or this one:
Strip2
Or even just an LED button. If LED isn't the way to go, what would you recommend? Any and all feedback (do it or not, what to use, etc) would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using a Lowes boughten 18 inch, under the counter florescent light with a 6500K bulb.
Much easier on the eyes and makes my LCD more vivid all around.
I started with a normal cool white bulb, doesnt cut the mustard per say, you need one rated 5000K+ to get the full effect. -
Why not get an actual backlight like the ideal lumes? I have a Sony 34 XBR as well, the 34XBR960 and won't use it without a backlight. I have had the backlight with this set, a 32HS510 and a 34HS510.
Just yesterday I was playing Silent Hill 4 for XBOX, which is a very dark game, and got tired of playing it after 30 mins or so. I went to turn it off and realized I forgot the backlight, turned it on and played for another hour and a half.
From my experience the big benefit is a reduction in eye fatigue. I liked the difference so much I have one for my 24in computer monitor and should be getting one soon for the SXRD we have in the other room.

Excellent, that was exactly what I was looking for and then some. And I've also got a 24" gateway (which is pretty bright) so I'll have to pick up one for that as well.

I noticed that you know alot about LCD. Did you install a flourescent tube to replace the backlight?I'm using a Lowes boughten 18 inch, under the counter florescent light with a 6500K bulb.
