What are your opinions on the Onix Reference 1 Monitor compared to the lsi 9"s?

This seems like one helluva deal, Ref 1(rocket rosewood) and sp 3 combo for $1199.

use the drop down arrow for combo price

"This honey, coupled with our new REF One LE (available in Rocket Rosewood only for a VERY special price), other Onix speakers or speakers you already own... will make ANY two channel system (or enthusiast) blush with pride..."

Ask Swingding about his thoughts on the SP3, as he seems to be one satisfied customer.
Also, Marcmarc gushed rather extensively over the piece in one of his Affordable Audio issues.

Thanks zombie boy, I read schwingdings review of the amp, seems to be a very solid unit.
Does anybody have any thoughts on the reference 1 speakers?

I'm really tempted to buy this combo at this price.

Apparently this deal has been going on for sometime.
Looking at the review on 6moons from April 2005 came across this

"Review component retail: $999 for integrated amp; $1,200/pr for speakers; $1,199 for combo"

    Yup...
that deal has kind of been heralded as a "no-brainer" for quite some time. That being said -- the speakers are supposedly not to everyone's taste. But I'll step aside considering I've never actually had my ear on 'em.

Again... maybe someone else can step up to the plate on this one?

Yes, they are similar, both based on the Vifa ring radiator.

Great write up Joey, why it is 2 years old, and I had not seen it yet - my bad.

    Cheers,

Just yesterday I received a pair of Ref 1 monitors! Give me a few days to form an opinion and I'll report back. As for the SP3, I think it'd be hard to find a better amp at that price - they're going for $550 on audiogon and even less with the speaker/amp package.

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate it.
    Nice write up Joey.
I look forward to your thoughts on the speakers Schwingding.

After further research, and the great recommendations here, I will definitely be purchasing the SP3 for my first tube amp sometime this year.
