Connecting separates

With the inspiration of some members here (and the recent settlement of a big case)....I am going separates for HT and just picked up a Rotel processor. Could someone please advise on the connections between preamp and amp. I am really just interested in the unbalanced connections. Are these simply single strand RCA cables with phono plugs, or different? I assume like all connections, there are huge differences in the quality that is available? I'd like to order something on line this evening. A friend buys all of his cabling off ebay and claims to get good value. Anybody else? Thanks. (sorry...this should have gone to hookups where there is some discussion of this already...I was multi-tasking and clicked wrong category).

You need an RCA connector for each channel between the pre and the amp, and then hook up your speakers to the amp.
Lots of discussions on cables quality/differences, and even more options to choose from. I am happy using Signalcable and Outlawaudio.
Congrats on your move to better sound_________________________________________________

as HTrookie said.. you need an RCA cable for each channel except the subwoofer. subwoofers have their own amps.. so no cable from the pre amp to the amp is needed there. You do need of course a cable from the pre amp to the subwoofer's amp.
here is one solution for connection your pre amp to your amp for all channels.

Thanks. To be clear, the RCA connectors are the same (quality aside for the moment) as any other cable you might use to connect cd player or VCR audio to a receiver (and except it is a single strand per channel)? I don't have SW now (yet, the way things are going), but do they also take an RCA connection from the preamp to the subwoofer's amp?

That is absolutely correct. However, a subwoofer interconnect would be appropriate when hooking up your sub.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore
