12AX7, 12AT7 same thing?

are these two tubes basically the same? these two are the ones that sound the best in my tube DAC. I tried two 12AU7, but it narrowed the soundfield to much..and the mid-highs were a bit to laid back with that tube.

I had one 12AX7 in the left channel and a 12AT7 in the right channel of my DAC and it really sounded better than I have ever heard it sound.. is it ok to mix these two tubes in one unit?

    The "X" and the "T" have different gain, so it is strange that having one in each channel, you liked it. :confused:

    I know.. freaky huh? but the dac is hooked up to the SRS's. and it give the sound an extra wide and detailed soundstage. I think if it was used in a traditional pair of speakers, it may sound off, but because of the SDA's being what they are and how they work.. it worked fine. ;)

    Just because your d/a has two tubes, doesn't mean it's use one for each channel, it can be using one triode from both tubes for each channel, each with a different purpose.
