I am not sure I would go that route for HT, but rather look at a solid 3CH amp or even a 5CH. Really depends on what you are attempting to drive. What is your reason for going that route instead of the multi-channel amp. Just my $0.02 worth.

IMO, there's no particular advantage to going with monos for HT, except, perhaps, on the center channel with a 2-channel amp for the fronts. This allows some flexibility for changing out amps or for building a separate 2-channel system in the future.
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

The reason I was going with the idea of mono's was that I am runninng RTi 150's for the fronts. From what I have read they take more power to get the best out of them. Right now i have a Yamaha RXV 995 that I have had since 2000 and I had planned to upgrade it eventually. I also have a Yamaha 460mx amphilifier that I have been using for the fronts.

What I have in Equipment right now is: Yamaha RXV 995 HT, Hitachi 60" Ht Ready rear projection TV, DTV HD, Mains are the 150's, center is 400i, rears are RT1000i's.

Separate from that I also have a set of LS 70's a set of LS 50's a set of ls/fx's and I also have a set of S6's.

I plan to set up a two channel system in the future. I was planning to upgrade the RXV 995 in the future after things settle down. I also was thinking about what I could do with the funds that I have available. The thought on the mono's was that I could add power to the front's over what I have now.

I am curious how you guys would set up this system with the stuff I have now.

I use monos for all my 3 fronts. I just like the fact they have their own power supply and don't share with other channels.
FWIW I have a outlaw M200 for my centre and 2 Marantz MA700 for my mains

I use three mono's for my fronts similar to Willow.. i like mono's because of the cost factor. they are less expensive than a 2 channel amp usually.. there are no disadvantages to going with mono's that I have found.

Well it would be hard for me to say as I was able to snag both Ma700 for 350$ Cad thats about 2$ USD ;) .
You know if I had to do it all again. I'd of still bought the 700s. Just be careful as they are quite long at least the 700s are. They are smooth and clean with lots of power. I find them to be very transparent.

Back to your 500s, it's a decent price. You're looking at about 200 a piece for Outlaw's M200 used give or take a couple $$.
The other thing I should mention is I never turn them off as they only have a video sensor not audio which sucks if I want to listen to music. So they stay on 27/7.
