Was curious if my DVD player could play 1080i resolution?

    Just curious what the highest resolution it will do?

    Just component - then no.

    The highest possible resolution you can get via component is 480p. That's why you need to get a DVD player with either a DVI or HDMI output in order to get a 1080i output.

    If that's the case, are you still keeping your Azur?

    How is the XBox 360, with just component connection capable of 1080i?

    Because the XBox 360's output circuitry transcodes the raw video signal from the graphics chipset into a component signal.

    Your DVD Player does not have that capability.

    I'm interested in getting a used Azur 540D...

    I think some players upconvert over component to 1080i. Some HD satellite units and DVD players have component out to 1080i.

    But, all upconverting DVD players that upconvert to 1080i will have component and either HDMI or DVI as well. . . so appadv is right as well.

    Yes, you're right in the fact that if the DVD player is capable of upconverting to 1080i, it will have component and HDMI or DVI.

    This is one of the *extremely few* players that has an SCART output, which can be used to feed a CRT Projector. (Sony VPH-D50Q)
