Ok guys I have a friend who wants some imput and I told him you guys have tons of ideas.

He wants a bookshelf system 2 fronts 1 center 2 rears and a sub.
his room is 20x16 with 8 foot ceiling and no windows and a carpet floor
his speaker budget is 2000 CAD. He is ordering an outlaw power and preamp for power so powering the speakers isnt an issue.

he's pretty open to any ideas, he just needs it to be bookshelf

what do you think,

thanks JIM

May as well get some used LSiS seeing as he has the power for them. 9s up front, 7s surround, and an LSiC should work nicely. . . say $1200 USD give or take. Then, the rest for a nice sub.

For his budget, I would get 4 LSi9's, an LSiC (or anther 9 if you can find one) and the best sub you can find with whatever is left over. (HSU, SVS or DIY (IB or box))

    Michael
    Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
    Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
    Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
    Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
    Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms)

Sure, there are tons of other things he could look at. What's readily available in the great white north? Let us know what brands are accessible and I'm sure you'll get some more opinions.

What sound does he like? klipshe, Paradigm, B&W, PSE, Polk RTi or LSi - you could open it up to any 5 bookshelves you can get for under 2 grand.

There are alot of good speaker builders out there - it all comes down to what sound is right for him/her. Tell them to get their listen on and at least narrow it down a little.

so we've been talking about 4 lsi7's with the lsic. with the svs or velodyne sub.

but do you think he will be happy using lsi7's for fronts? cause this meets his budget perfect or is it that much better to pay the 3-400 more for the lsi9?

This is with NO EXPERIENCE, but I think the 7's with a sub would work real well, esp for HT. Is he more a music guy or movies?

music is an afterthought for this system. its in a room he uses for watching movies, sports and gaming. so I would say 10% music at best

But I take it if it were more 50/50 the nines would be the way to go.

I almost had him talked in the lsi15's but he's not into the towers.

That system would be nice, but considering that the 705's are $1500/pair, $2K aint gonna cut it. Even used.

    4x lsi9's
    lsic.

Totem Forest are the best setup that I have. I think I never let them go. That is all I can say. They are "cheap" for what they are. Try them yourself from your local dealers (if any) and see if you like them.
