Outlets for good used separates

With a lot of help from the forum (esp. Engtaz) and a lot of reading over the weekend, I've decided I need to jump to separates to run my HT set up. However, given this will be my first venture into higher end HT equipment (and a $40k tax bill--knew that withholding was too low), I would like to pick up used. Other than the usual classifieds, any ideas on particular audio shops that sell used online (or in Kansas City area). Ideally, I would like an integrated 5-6 channel with about 150 watts per, but they appear very rare (one McIn in Miami). But, a used processor and multi-channel amp would do the trick for the power I need (call me Cptn Kirk). Thanks very much. The people on this forum have been very helpful to me and others and it is much appreciated. (sorry I used the word "outlets")

I never bought anything from these guys, but have visited their shop to audition speakers. Seem like nice guys. They have more McIntosh than anything else.

    *bay,audiogon,craigslist, and our fleamarket
Try to narrow down do you want HT pre amp plus separate amp/amps or do you want HT reciever. Each can give you a 150 watts per channel.

    Good Luck

Engtaz mentioned Audiogon (www.audiogon.com). This is one of the best venues for picking up quality used gear. There are a lot of people on there with money who upgrade often and offer up their used gear at very decent prices. Check there often and you can jump on a great deal, but you've got to be quick when you do see something at a good price. Check feedback though!

See if you can find some Outlaw gear on Agon, or just get it from them direct (they have good prices already). It's not the end-all of high end separates, but they seem to be a very good place to get started in separates.

Also, people post about Emotiva separates here often and their prices are certainly budget friendly.

What are you thinking of spending? Maybe $1200 - $1500 total?

Thanks a lot. $1200-$1500 sounds about right from prices I reviewed (to get used processor/preamp and multi channel amp). I would be happy with an older preamp because I don't need/want all the video switching upconversion, etc. I'll get registered on Audiogon (I think you have to see feedback). I also came across a spearitsound through surfing and they have some quality used with short-term warranties. I have a Rotel dealer around the corner and got some good 2 channel stuff from them a few years ago and will stop and see if they have any trades. I see mostly good reviews on their A/V multi-channel stuff.

Rotel is another good one. I'd check with your dealer and see what might be available.

Someone here was selling a Rotel RSP 976 or something similar to that a while back for about $400. Might check the FM to see if you can find that ad. Get the Rotel Pre/Pro, add a 5 channel Rotel amp, and you're good to go for probably $1000 - $1200. If you want something more extravagant, just resell them and you'll be almost assured to get your initial investment back.

There are a few Rotel's on Agon right now. http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampsmult&1180633820

Looks like Mark (Doro) sold his 976 that was in the FM, but there are plenty of others out there. . . like this one: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?homeproc&1181839739

Spearit usually has some decent deals every once in a while. If I recall correctly they have a location in Boston and Northampton. I have bought items from them before new and they were easy to work with and offered me a good deal.

Another one I am surprised no one mentioned is the audio pimp, JB Audio Pimp. Has a lot of stuff on the cheap and his good deals don't last long. He lists on his website as well as on Agon, 840 positive feedback and 1 neutral.

damn, why did you have to post that thing about JB Audio Pimp, Gaara.

never should've opened it. I just contacted him and will probably end up buying something I don't need by day's end.

Great prices, tho. Made him an offer on something about $100 under listed price, and he said we have a deal.

I can see we'll have to keep you from wandering around at the Lonestar Audio
meet. Maybe we'll both have to check our wallets in at the hotel lobby
    for safekeeping.

Seriously, Paypal funds that come in from audio sales may as well be monopoly money. If a seller takes Paypal, I'm liable to buy just about anything.

If a drove by a gentlemen's club and it had a paypal logo outside, I'd probably stop in for a bit.

Good thing you weren't looking out my office window. That bimbo across the
street that worked at a strip club has on the shortest skirt I've seen in a long time.
I think a lot of guys have dropped their paycheck on that one.
At my age, I'd rather have the audio gear

I think the **** keeps a credit card machine in her purse.

I pulled son #1 over to warn him "That would be a snatch with teeth".
I think he understood the reference. Like I said, I'm old
enough now to think about it!

Jared--thanks. I am seeing if I can get that processor. The fella already sold his amp, but there is a 1075 on ebay as well as a Carver. It would be nice to buy from someone here if possible. (I keep hearing Michael Stipe sing about out wants and needs being confused). Mike

Sorry for the mini-hijacking, Neil. Post a WTB in the FM section here if you want some options from members.

I'm sure there is a nice Outlaw or Rotel setup just waiting for you to purchase.

That's not where they keep the card swipe.

Good Luck shopping and with audio don't have any regrets. If you do, turn the music up louder.
