I am thinking of up grading from the standard hd box to the dvr box by comcast. Aside from recording and pausing is there a difference in the sound and picture. The lady said since i will be using a hdmi cable there will be a big difference. Right now i have to use components, the standard box will not except the hdmi cable. My sound with the standard box is kind a low compared to dish which i have also. I would only switch if there is an improvement in the quality. Thanks in advance

Dude, the quality could be WORSE, and it's still worth it for the DVR functionality. I can't watch TV without DVR anymore.

That being said, I noticed a big difference when I went from component to HDMI, at least in video quality. I don't use the HDMI for audio so I can't comment on that.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

The woman i was talking to sounded real smart. The smartest i've talked to at comcast. She said using components you are sharing the signal with analog. With an hdmi cable hook up it is totally a hd signal. The part i don't like is a service call for something i could install myself. I will give it some thought. Thanks

I don't think there will be any difference. If i understand you correctly.. you have a HD standard box.. now you want an HD DVR box correct? Just by adding the DVR part of it.. i highly doubt there will be much if any difference.

If you are concerned about audio quality.. a optical digital cable would give you great digital sound..

Sounds like she doesn't know what she's talking about?

Cable signal is not that great already so I beleve she is just saying what she's been told. You will at least get to watch HD recordings. Video wise I don't think you will see a difference.

Standard Comcast HD boxes do not have HDMI outputs, only component.

The Comcast DVR boxes, in addition to providing DVR service, also provide HDMI outputs. So, he's saying, ignoring the DVR aspect, will he notice a difference when upgrading his box from one which is component only to one which can output the signal via HDMI.

    I noticed a difference. YMMV.
