i have a pair of speakers dated 1984 they look exactly like the sda 1c but the tweeters are placed horizontally instead of vertical i'm sorry i don't have a pic my camera broke but does anybody know what model they are?(curse you polk for not stamping a model number somewhere) and also are the speakers worth anything? not that i'd ever sell them >_>

you might want to remove one of the mid drivers/speakers... and often times in the those days, they would stamp the model number on the rear of the mid bass driver. it's not foolproof of course... but I've often found it to be pretty accurate actually. is may say something like SDA1C or SDA2B, etc.
good luck.
check out this link.. it may help. not all models are shown.

okay they look EXACTLY like the sda 2 except have one more woofer i did pull one and it said sda 1 i believe but thats not the model it kinda makes me mad i cant find it lol the things do sound amazing but sadly one of the dimensional tweeters is blown thought one of the main ones was blown but turns out a fuse was just blown dodged a bullet there

Two tweeters over 4 drivers and a fuse? You have SDA 1's.Political Correctness'.........defined

but the pictures i see of the sda-1 all have vertically stacked tweeters mine are horizontal (by the way two fuses) so are the vertical ones monitor series perhaps? by the way are there any easy to find tweeters that fit the same and sound the same? perhaps a later model with the beveled edges? sl1000
-
yeah you could have monitor 12's i think. it's all possible.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Edit: I read that wrong, sorry. You have SDA 1's, the original version. The 1B and 1C have vertical tweeters.Political Correctness'.........defined

sweet thanks ^.^ i'm just really starting to get into building a better stereo these are my first REAL set of belonged to my dad who was reluctant to give them up after realising they sound better than his current polks
-
I believe the new replacement tweeter, the RD0194-1 will work in place of your SL1000's.
Oh yeah, welcome to the forum and enjoy your speakers.Political Correctness'.........defined

thanks F1nut how much do the tweeters cost? and i've heard i had to do some cutting with that model but do they look the same at all? *enjoys showing off the guts and not a grill *
-
The Club Polk price is $48.00 each. They are all black, so they don't look the same, but they sound better. Grills are great for keeping dust off the drivers and curious fingers away.Political Correctness'.........defined

drivers are already filthy haven't gotten around to cleaning them yet way too busy enjoying the beautiful sound. and since the new tweeter "sounds better" do you think that would throw off the sound at all?
-
oh yeah also is it just a drop in or would i have to modify the hole any? *shudders at the thought of a power tool/saw dust near his speakers *

Take a look at these Monitor 12's on ebay and see if that is what you have. You didn't mention if speakers had spot for interconnect cable.
Mike -

Nope, they'll make everything sound better. I believe the RD0 is a drop in for the SL1000, but definitely not for the Peerless.
Again, no question about it, you have the SDA 1's.Political Correctness'.........defined

Yup, nice SDA-1s!
-
they were in storage for quite a while its a shame the tweeter is blown tho . they used to belong to my father i'm very happy to have them now such awesome sound ^.^ anyway thanks everyone
-
Have you swapped the tweeter in question for a known good one? Also, double check the fuse and the holder. Oxidation has been known to be the cause of many a tweeter not working.Political Correctness'.........defined

Welcome to Club Polk WolfKiyoshi! You've got some real nice speakers! The SDA-1's are terrific. Replace the SL1000 tweeters and you will be living large. you could pay a ton of money to buy new speakers that sound better than those. Cangrats and good luck! Post any problems that you may have, we try and work out the bugs for you. Did you get the interconeect cable?
CarlCarl -
the interconnect cable was packed away in a box and i checked both fuses and connected to the tweeter directly no dice the plastic dome is ripped slightly also which kinda sucks but its completely shot
-
oh and speaking of "bugs" when i first hooked them up i had no bass in either speaker fiddled with the wire a bit and suddenly the entire house was shaking could that be the crossovers? or perhaps a single strand of wire was shorting the contacts and **** up the receiver? (pioneer vsx-3300 no bells and whistles but for an old starter stereo it somehow blows my dads seperate component stereo away [adcom 535 amp yamaha i think cx-1 pre ] )

I have the SL1000 (silver Polk plate?) on my 10Bs and have been happy with them, but would do an upgrade if it is worth it. The Polk's vintage list shows the SL1000 as coming in around 1984, but I am am sure I bought these in 1983. Is the tweeter upgrae worth the cost and effort and doable by a novice DIYer? I would die if I messed these speakers up. I can post a pic of the 10Bs if it would help.
