you might want to remove one of the mid drivers/speakers... and often times in the those days, they would stamp the model number on the rear of the mid bass driver. it's not foolproof of course... but I've often found it to be pretty accurate actually. is may say something like SDA1C or SDA2B, etc.

    good luck.

check out this link.. it may help. not all models are shown.

Two tweeters over 4 drivers and a fuse? You have SDA 1's.

but the pictures i see of the sda-1 all have vertically stacked tweeters mine are horizontal (by the way two fuses) so are the vertical ones monitor series perhaps? by the way are there any easy to find tweeters that fit the same and sound the same? perhaps a later model with the beveled edges? sl1000

Edit: I read that wrong, sorry. You have SDA 1's, the original version. The 1B and 1C have vertical tweeters.

I believe the new replacement tweeter, the RD0194-1 will work in place of your SL1000's.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum and enjoy your speakers.

The Club Polk price is $48.00 each. They are all black, so they don't look the same, but they sound better. Grills are great for keeping dust off the drivers and curious fingers away.

drivers are already filthy haven't gotten around to cleaning them yet way too busy enjoying the beautiful sound. and since the new tweeter "sounds better" do you think that would throw off the sound at all?

Take a look at these Monitor 12's on ebay and see if that is what you have. You didn't mention if speakers had spot for interconnect cable.

Nope, they'll make everything sound better. I believe the RD0 is a drop in for the SL1000, but definitely not for the Peerless.

Again, no question about it, you have the SDA 1's.

Have you swapped the tweeter in question for a known good one? Also, double check the fuse and the holder. Oxidation has been known to be the cause of many a tweeter not working.

Welcome to Club Polk WolfKiyoshi! You've got some real nice speakers! The SDA-1's are terrific. Replace the SL1000 tweeters and you will be living large. you could pay a ton of money to buy new speakers that sound better than those. Cangrats and good luck! Post any problems that you may have, we try and work out the bugs for you. Did you get the interconeect cable?

oh and speaking of "bugs" when i first hooked them up i had no bass in either speaker fiddled with the wire a bit and suddenly the entire house was shaking could that be the crossovers? or perhaps a single strand of wire was shorting the contacts and **** up the receiver? (pioneer vsx-3300 no bells and whistles but for an old starter stereo it somehow blows my dads seperate component stereo away [adcom 535 amp yamaha i think cx-1 pre ] )

I have the SL1000 (silver Polk plate?) on my 10Bs and have been happy with them, but would do an upgrade if it is worth it. The Polk's vintage list shows the SL1000 as coming in around 1984, but I am am sure I bought these in 1983. Is the tweeter upgrae worth the cost and effort and doable by a novice DIYer? I would die if I messed these speakers up. I can post a pic of the 10Bs if it would help.
