One of my coworkers has a pair of pretty decent shape monitor 7's with peerless tweeters. I've seen em.. they are in pretty good condition. he says they don't work. and I am trying to buy them from him.

I bet they prob just need a new fuse or the crossover may have problems or something like that.

so my question is. how much should I offer him for them in what he calls non working condition? All the drivers are in good shape it appears, from when I saw them. Grills are included and in good condition.

I know what I would offer for a working pair in this condition. but not for a non working pair. I don't want to replace the fuse or anything like that for him and have him change his mind on selling them to me. ;):D

I bought mine mint for $80 off of ebay plus $30 for shipping. If that helps. Non working I wouldnt spend more that $40 - $50.

Peerless is unavailable, unless used on ebay.
The mw6503 is availiable for $48 from Polk.
Crossover repairs can be upwards of $60-$80 depending on quality you replace the parts with.

So taking all of that into effect and depending on what the problem is. I think $40-$50 a pr would be a fair price for nonworking.

40-50 bucks would be fair since they are in non working condition.

I got them for $25.. that's what I offered him.. they have a few problems with the drivers..

1 speaker needed a new Peerless tweeter.. so as luck would have it.. I had a spare one. Installed it... and it sounds good again.

Speaker number 2 has a bad Peerless tweeter and a frozen MW6500 mid bass driver.

So.. I am currently looking for both.. a Peerless Polk tweeter and MW6500 mid driver.

Oh yeah.. these are 7A's. with two fuses on the back,

If anyone has a MW6500 or 1 peerless that'd like to sell me, please PM me.

ahh yes.. and I am looking for grills too for the 7A's. they were sans grills.

I believe the 6501 is the current replacement for the 6500.
You may want to check with ken or jesse.

I have a spare Peerless with the Polk-a-dot but the leads are cut short to around 1/2 their original length. The wires still hold but soldering might be a good idea sometime in the future. I think this was passed along from another member. It's yours if you like.

    Thanks Steve.

We'll figure out the details later.

I unsoldered the bad peerless from the leads.. and i suck big time at soldering. omg, the poor thing was toast. good thing it was bad already. :p

heat from a solder iron and delicate tweeter leads do not mix. i'll post a pic later.

Do we need a solder tutorial at PF 2007? Am I going to be forced to stay sober for it?

Per info I received from Ken in CS this week, the MW6503 is the current replacement for the MW6500 found in many of the Monitors with Peerless tweets (I was inquiring about the drivers in 5A's with Peerless).

FYI, I also learned from Ken that drivers from later Monitor series are not drop-in replacements due to different mechanical and electrical characteristics. Specifically, a MW6502 from a 5B is not a drop-in for a MW6500 from a 5A. Ken indicated that the bass and overall tonal balance would be different if one tried that type of swap.

adam2434, thanks for the info.. I really prefer to find a MW6500 driver that is exactly like this old one.. because I think the material around the outside is more of a gray-ish color paper material. If the MW6503 has the gray compressed material on the outer ring.. that i'd surely get one.

Does anyone have a picture of the MW6503 by chance and can post it here?

Granted the new mw6503 drop ins are not ideal replacements for the mw6501 and mw6500 with the peerless, a simple crossover mod does fix this issue.

This tweeter is very, very close to the peerless sonicly and is a drop in replacement with NO mods for installation. The only thing I found was it is alittle more efficient than the peerless, so re/equing will probably have to happen. But this tweeter is the best answer if a peerless cannot be found here or ebait. And it is cheap enough to use until a peerless can be found.

Could you elaborate? Ken indicated that 6503's are replacements for 6500's and didn't mention any required crossover mods. Reason I'm interested is that I may need to consider a new 6503 for my 5A's if I can't find a used 6500.

    Thanks,

    Adam

I found (and this might just be me) that the new mw6503's are more efficient than the mw6500's (but with less bass) when used with the peerless. But this could just be me. You might find they sound identical.
