60 ft. hdmi or 60 ft. component

Hi everyone! I was considering replacing an old component cable that is routed through the walls in my home with a hdmi. The only problem is the cable is about 60 ft. long. Do you think I'd loose video quality or have a problem with such a long run in an hdmi? Perhaps I should simply redo my component cable. What do you think?

Digital is always going to be better than analog over long runs. I would say go with an HDMI.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

errrr... _MAYBE_ it'll work. Analog will always sort work- you might get some signal degradation, but at least you'll get picture. With digital it either works perfectly or not at all. I tried a 50 foot HDMI run and it just didn't happen.

So buy from someplace where you can return it and be sure to do a test run before you put it into the walls :)

HDMI can't go over 25ft without the use of a repeater, anybody that would recommend an HDMI over this length (without the use of repeater) doesn't know what they're talking about. Repeater's can get expensive and hard to install; buyer beware.

    http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/dvi/index.htm

"The toughest in-use test an HDMI cable can pass is to deliver signals reliably over distance; our Blue Jeans Cable Series-2 HDMI cables have proven reliable out to at least 50 feet, while many others fail at shorter distances. In our own in-use testing, we have found that the 50-foot cable operates flawlessly at 1080p. Unlike many competing cables, the Blue Jeans Cable Series-2 HDMI cable is both UL-listed and rated CL2 under the National Electrical Code, making it lawful for in-wall installation in NEC jurisdictions (note: many cables are UL-listed without having an in-wall NEC rating; if it doesn't have CL2 or a similar NEC designation printed directly on the jacket, don't assume it's rated for installation.). The signal conductors in our HDMI cables are 24 AWG silver-plated copper, regardless of cable length, unlike many which use small-gauge wire at short distances. While a small-gauge cable may work well in a single short run, it is a potential source of trouble if you're using switches, couplers, or repeaters along the way. View the drawing and spec sheet on our Series-2 HDMI and HDMI/DVI Cables, in .pdf format."

Call or email to see, BJC may say you can get a 60 footer to work.

Maybe if you used 28 gauge HDMI cable, that is NOT suppose to be used for runs over say about 10ft. It all depends on the gauge of run, for different lengths.

I've ran over 25ft of HDMI cord with NO problems...

I'm currently running 35ft HDMI cable, picture looks just as good as a 3ft cable.

I got this one and have had no problems with signal degradation. Competitively priced and is a very nice cable. They sell it in all kinds of lengths.
