    Welcome Giddavr.

I have never heard a Polk sub. However, I have a BA sub & I like it just fine for my small room. It supplements the bass in my music perfectly & adds enough BOOM to my movies for my taste.

It won't rattle my walls, but then again, I'm not sure I want it to since I want to keep the peace with my neighbors.

I dont care about keeping peace with my neighbors. Neighbors are there to annoy you and call the cops on you when you dont want them to.

Boston Acoustics hasn't made a worthwhile product in years.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I agree totally,BA's are muddy and boomy! It depends on how much money you want to spend on a Polk as to what kind of bass you'll get.But I would pick Polk hands down over BA.:)

I'm gonna shoot from the hip and make a largely unfounded statement, so, for what its worth (and its probably not worth a whole lot)...

Depending on your price point (and for arguments sake, lets say $300 - $600 shipped), I don't think you'll see a lot of variation between products among the larger commercial brands. Stated differently, I think they will sound very comparable. They may even share some components and/or construction facilities as well.

I guess what I'm saying is that if your going to spend less than $600 on the sub, if your buying a major brand, there isn't enough difference between them to justify a long drawn out analysis over the internet.

Caveat: By major brands I mean BA, Polk, Yamaha, Cambridge, etc.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

The Polk PSW-505 is a good sub for most applications.

BA makes subs? They're not on my radar as competition.

I am only interested in HT and not music.

My setup - ONKYO TX – SR 504 AV RECEIVER
    OPPO OPDV971H Upconverting DVD Player
    SONY Grand Wega 50” KF-E50A10 3LCD RPTV
Front - SONY SS-BX6AV 2way Bass Reflex Bookshelf Speakers
Center -– Dayton 2 way sealed Enclosure
Rear -– Sony SS-RS106 10cm. Full Range Bass Reflex - NO SUB.

Dont ask me why I am using those Sonys. They are from an old setup before I got the new TV, AVR and Oppo. Now I need to setup a proper Speaker system for my HT.

I am thinking of Polk RTi 8 or 10 as FS, CSi 3 or 5, RTi 4 or FXi3 for SC.

Would you say PSW-505 will be GOOD enough as a SUB compared to the SVS PB10NSD for HT.

    My room is 20' x 20' x 9'.

IMO, the SVS PB10NSD is the MUCH better choice for HT.

Given your size room, you may even want to at least consider the SVS PB12NSD.

Is Velodyne of same quality as SVS

SVS is considered one of the best for music. Velodyne is very good and gets great reviews. I don't know what the others think but for me it's one the the best out there for HT and music combined. They are very well made and customer service is very good. You could not go wrong getting a Velodyne. Music requires a tighter bass and SVS comes thought better on the tight bass then the Velodyne (not that the Velodyne is not tight). The velodyne is not bad for music just not as tight as the SVS but for HT its great.

    Hope that answered you question,

SVS considered the best for music, IMO, I would have to disagree. I believe SVS is considered one of the best for HT. I would think JL, Velodyne (DD series), & HSU would be considered best for music. The DD series from Velodyne are really top notch performers. The other models are not of the same quality, given their price points.

These are my opinions and I'm sure others will agree and disagree.:)

By the way I own Velodyne,

I remember hearing my first Velodyne sub in a shop where they had a room for HT and the Velo was a spl1200r and I was awestruck!I went back months later and heard an HGS15 and was totally blown away.I love SVS due to owning one now,but I can't compare my PC 20-39 to that spl1200r.The Velo puts it to shame, but my SVS is an older one and it pooped out, waiting for the new bash amp and sub.So maybe there will be a significant improvement.
