Connecting wireless headphones

Connection issue two. This is a little more straightforward. I have a pair of wireless headphones. My older Yamaha HTR has limited options, so I run the audio out to the headphone base from the VCR audio out on the receiver. But, I can only get TV through this (because I suppose only the TV/cable input then runs to the VCR output.) Right? So, I plug the head phone base into the tape rec out, thinking that all audio will run out this output, but I don't get any audio into the headphones. Obivously, I am wrong about something. Where should I plug the headphones into if I want to hear DVD through them. I suppose I could get adaptor and plug them into headphone jack on front, but I wanted them plugged into rear of receiver. Thanks. Maybe I just need more sleep.
