Need a little bit of help...

Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone here is good with Physics, as I am stuck on the following physics question (for my mechanics course) and have been trying to solve it for an hour:
"A wagon wheel is constructed in which the radius of the wheel is 0.300m, and the rim has mass 1.40kg. Each of the eight spokes, that lie along a diameter and are 0.300m long, has mass 0.280kg. What is the moment of inertia of the wheel about an axis through its center and perpendicular to the plane of the wheel?"
I'm stumped due to the fact that I don't know how to derive/find the moment of inertia in this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm doing this in Calc 3 right now with double and triple integrals...but without an equation to integrate, I'm stuck.
Sorry. Physics is coming up next semester for me.George Grand wrote: »

That's fine. I know the double and triple integral stuff can get quite difficult...school is difficult in general. However, if you really enjoy what you learn, school becomes fun. Calc is my favorite class - it gets me thinking and even though it is difficult at times I enjoy it.
I understand your point of view though, without an equation I'm stuck too!polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves

try this. http://www.scar.utoronto.ca/~pat/fun/NEWT3D/PDF/MOMINERT.PDF Or this. http://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=164420
REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all -
Thanks for the links...wow, that second link really explains it well!polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves
