I know that the RDO194 replaces the SL2000 and the RDO198 replaces the SL3000. I wanted to know how closely the 2 matched in sound. I am looking to see if it is necessary to replace the SL3000 in my 3.1's. The improvement in my Monitor 5's was very noticeable. It made the vocals smooth not bright.
I have not heard of much differences in the SL3000 and RDO198.

Thanks for your input,

How long ago did you replace them? After about 20 hours they really smooth out/ The SL3000's are nice, but as with all metal based designs they have an inherent brightness. I heard a marked difference.

I think it's all a matter of taste. The RD0's all around are going to be smoother, less fatiguing, and more laid back (compared to the sl2000 & sl3000). Some people really enjoy the sl tweets, but I suspect it's because they haven't heard a properly broken in pair of RD0's.

In my short experience if you refresh your x-overs you will notice even more forwardness in the sl series of tweets. In my 5's the sl2000 before the mods was marginally acceptable. After the mods, it was downright painful to listen to. My RD0's are breaking in nicely and the sound is so much smoother and coherent and less metallic sounding.

It's a win win situation, but if you really aren't bothered by the original sl's then perhaps the $$$ isn't worth it. I suspect if you update the x-overs the RD0's will follow. Now stop asking questions and get to doing the mods. :);).

P.s. I was a bit apprehensive that the RD0's would make a big enough difference for me to even keep the 5b's, but they did and they aren't going anywhere. :D

What is the differences between the RDO198 and the SL3000? Is it as noticable as with the SL2000 and RDO194?

    Thanks

There is no doubt. I was VERY happy with the stock units until I heard the replacements at a fellow polkies house. Ordered replacements for every SDA I owned the next day. Probably the biggest single tweeter order polk ever received... :)
