Im new to all this. I recently bought the LSI9 series because they blew me away on display at a store. I was sold an Onkyo SR804 to go with it. I will be using this for HT and 2channel music. I knew nothing about Ohms on speakers until today but now I understand it takes a lot of power to get the best from these speakers.

Im allready over budget but I wont be satisfied until this system cranks. What is the best amp for the $ I can add to my SR804 to get the LSI9's to perform. What is the minimum watts per ch. I can get away with a amp hooked up to my SR804.

Remember, Im trying to keep the amp price as resonable as possible to avoid DIVORCE. Im allready a thousand+ over budget from what I told the wife

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. The Lsi9's are rated at half the resistance of typical speakers (4ohm vs. 8ohm). So, the Onkyo may exert itself too much at higher volumes and go into protect mode.

How big is your room? How far away from the speakers are you?

Adcom 555. It's the minivan of power amps, but like Billy Dee says, it works every time.

Should be able to score one on ebay for ~$300-$400.

The rooms is about 15X20. Im sitting about 15 feet from my TV. Won't adding a amp get rid of the problem of my Onkyo going into protect mode?

Should I return the receiver to get a different reciever that can handle the LSI9's? If so which reciever that has all the HT options of the Onkyo sr804. I really like the HDMI and upscaling features of the onkyo SR804.

Or keep the Onkyo sr804 and buy a amp?

I am on a slight budget. I really dont want to spend more then about $1200 bucks on a nice receiver or $1200 bucks on a decent receiver and a amp combo. Whats the better way to go?

I know the amp will make my left and rights crank when listening to music but can the Onkyo SR804 handle the lsi'9's left, right, and center when Im running 5.1 watching movies at a medium volume? The SR804 specs says it supports 4ohms... im such a newb...

If I buy the amp and then start watching my first 5.1 movie with my wife and my reciever powers down, im headed for divorce court:o

Do I need to get a 3+ channel amp to support my LSIC also? Would the ADCOM GFA-7605 at $799 make this system perform with the SR804? Or can I get away with the 2ch amp for right and left and let the SR804 power the LSIC center?

You could do 3 outlaw audio M2200 Monoblocks. they are rated at 300 watts @4ohms. 3 of them would set you back 921.00 or you could look on Audiogon and find sweet deals there on Adcoms all day.

Get an Adcom GFA-555, and your 2 channel will sound great. Look on audiogon, and ebay. You should be able to score one for under $400 shipped. Use the rest of your reciever for HT (center, and surrounds).
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben
