I'm tyring to figure out wether the basic version will do or should I puchase the upgrade.

I'm giving my system an Eq job. Mainly dealing with a crossover in my center channel and subwoofer calibration.

I have searched through this forum for the topic of TrueRTA and came up with little next to nothing.

Is the basic version enough to do the job or should I concider getting the upgrade?

Also (I dont know if anyone would know this) but would the mic that came with my HK 635 do a good job in reading Fr responce with TrueRTA. I did notice the mic was a stereo mic and not a mono. At least thats what the plug looks like. Or would my analog Rat-Shack meter work better?

I appologize if this topic has been covered before. I havent had a chance to play around with TrueRTA but would like to get some opinions and and maybe some tricks from you all who have experience with this calibration tool.

The free version of TrueRTA is not very detailed across the octaves. I paid for the Level 4 and it was worth it.

You'll need correction factors for cheap mics. The Rat Shack really craps out on the lower frequencies.

When you say detailed, you mean because its 1 full octave and not 1/4 or 1/2 octive?

What do you think of the HK meter? It seems to work great for the AVR.

The free version isn't a great analyzer, but it is a great sound generator. You can send signals all across the whole scale one Hz at a time.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

See thats the problem. I have sine waves already on cd. When I play audio from my PC to my AVR, I have a terrible ground loop. I think the hummm would mess with the readings. So reading the FR's would be probably the only job the RTA would do.

I think the ground loop is coming from the sound card not the cables...thats a whole other project...

Exactly. You miss a ton of detail.

Great job PT, have you tried RTA in the higher Fr's too? Or just the sub?

And I keep reading on mic correction? How do you know if your mic needs to be corrected? The only reason I know about the ratshack being off is because I read about it. Other wise I wouldnt have known.

How would I go about testing my HK for correction with RTA?

AAARRRRGGGHHH,,,, I cant get this software to work.

I plugged my mic in...tested it..it works fine. I can hear it perfectly through my speakers.

I ran TrueRTA, clicked RTA and set my CPU speed to 3 and octive 1, in the analyzer menu. Then clicked for SPL. Then clicked go. All I get is an analyzer line jumping up and down between 18hz and 24khz. I ran a 2khz sine wave. Nothing happened, the same analyzer lines never adjusted for the 2khz spike.

    I know my mic works...

Is there a step im missing?

Actually the radio shack meter is pretty good at the low frequencies, but sucks at above 2Khz.

Buy the full version - well worth the additional resolution. If you're serious enough about this to examine your frequency response - really do it.

Im using my mic that came with my HK AVR. A very good mic I might add.

I'm not getting any responce from TrueRTA, with any meter. The wavy analyzer lines never change with any Fr I play.
